Default Moving to middletown new york please help!!!!

Good day! I am wanting to move to Middletown, New York. I will be bringing my 9 year old son with me. I am often in that area and investigating. From what I see I really love the place I drive around and Wallkill seems really nice I would appreciate any information that anyone has apatrments, nice areas,areas to look out for schools and any other things that would be helpful. I really would love to live near water and not sure where the marina or water area is. I am a state employee and have been looking on websites for county jobs (Orange, sullivan, rockland and putnum) I have noticed that no new opprotunities for exams have been posted in about 3 weeks also, I am curious to know if there is public transportation. I have noticed that you need a car there. If anyone has any leads or information on state or and county jobs that would be great as well. Thank you all so so much and look forward to your information.

Avoid Middletown or Newburgh City Schools. You must also clarify which Wallkill you like. Wallkill (hamlet in town of Shawangunk) is in Ulster, not Orange, County. Whereas Wallkill (town) encompasses all of Middletown in Orange County.

Other nice areas within Orange County include Montgomery, Pine Bush, Goshen, Chester, and Washingtonville among others. No matter where you live in Orange County, you are never more than a 40 minute drive to the Hudson River, the waterway that makes up the Eastern border of the county. If you wanted to live a bit closer to the water, I would suggest Montgomery (about 13 miles from the water front), Cornwall-on-Hudson (on the water), and New Windsor (0-2 miles from the water). Good schools within the county include Valley Central (serving Montgomery / Walden / Maybrook / parts of Newburgh and Campbell Hall), Goshen (serving Goshen), Chester Union Free (serving Chester), and Washingtonville (serving Washingtonville), as well as Monroe Woodbury (serving Monroe, Woodbury, Harriman, and the surrounding communities). You definitely need a car here. Shortline does run a 17k->211 route bus that gets you to and from Newburgh and Middletown; this bus passes through Montgomery. Other public transportation includes train service to Secaucus NJ with connections to the city via the Port Jervis, Otisville, Middletown, Campbell Hall, Salisbury Mills-Cornwall, Harriman, and Tuxedo New Jersey Transit Stations. Look for jobs on craigslist. As a general rule, avoid the downtown sections of Middletown and Newburgh. Let me know if you have any more specific questions regarding Orange County.

Default Thank you!

That was very helpful information. I was thinking of the Wallkill within Middletown. I never thought about cornwall on Hudson. Hmmm..that's a thought. I mean I really want to live by the water. I will be in the area next week and will try and drive through to see. Would you be able to tell me a little more about cornwall on hudson? Excuse my ignorance in asking some questions. Cornwall on hudson would be cornwall on hudson, ny? A city in orange county? How would I get there? I am familiar with walmart on route 211. Goshen is beautiful, I drove through there last year. Looks very expensive? Thanx again!

As for the specifics on Cornwall-on-Hudson:
Cornwall-on-Hudson is a village within the town of Cornwall. So yes, if you lived in the village, you would live in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. If you lived outside of the village but within the town, you would live in Cornwall, NY. Cornwall-on-Hudson can be quite pricey due to its location right on the water. It may be worth looking in to other locations within the town of Cornwall for something a bit cheaper (Salisbury Mills / Blooming Grove). Cornwall has a nice downtown area with a GREAT burger joint. If you happen to go, definitely hit up Woody's Burgers on 107/Quaker Ave. You can't miss it - its one of the first establishments you will see as you head into Cornwall.

As for getting there.....a number of ways....from Middletown:

1. Continue to head East on 211, past Walmart, past Quikchek and out of Middletown toward Montgomery. Continue through the village of Montgomery (10 miles from Middletown). At the only stoplight in the Village of Montgomery / the Eastern terminus of 211, make a right onto 17K. Head East on 17K through the village of Montgomery and into the Town of Newburgh. You will pass Valley Central Middle/High School, a Pilot Travel Center, and Orange County Choppers Headquarters among other things as you head towards Newburgh. Once you reach Route 300 in Newburgh, take a right and head South. Continue on 300 past Home Depot, Walmart, and Sonic until you reach Route 207. Take a left onto Route 207 / 300 and head East toward Vails Gate. Continue on 300 until you reach five corners in Vails Gate. Bear right onto Route 32 toward Cornwall. You will go down a substantial hill. After going down the hill, you will come upon Route 107. Make a left onto 107 and continue to follow into Cornwall, NY.

2. 211->17->84...

After making a right out of the Walmart parking lot and heading East on 211, bear right onto Route 17 toward New York City. Once on 17, about 3/4 mile down, exit EAST toward NEWBURGH on Route 84. Take 84 to Exit 6 Montgomery / Newburgh. Make a right off the exit. This is 17K. Continue East on 17K until you reach Route 300.

And yes, Goshen can be very expensive. There is a reason that it is the county seat.

I also was looking in the Albany area. My friend moved there 5. Years ago, I guess it just depends on where I get a job first. Do u know anything about that area?

I don't know the specifics of Albany, but do know of some of the nice suburbs of Albany to look into moving to if you do happen to get a job in Albany. These include Clifton Park, Ballston Spa, Schuylerville, Altamont, Guilderland, and Colonie among others. You said that you like being on the water....that opens up Round Lake / Saratoga as options as well.
