Has Lockheed Martin in Owego bounced back at all or is that completely gone?

Also, I know that there were a couple of companies out in or near Kirkwood, but I forgot the names of those companies.

Kirkwood has Dunkin' Donuts and McDonalds. So they are quite set for employment ops.

Is Binghamton starting be used as a base for gas service companies? I see a fair number in Elmira and even Waverly. Recently followed a line of frackwater trucks north from Tioga County (PA) up through Corning to I-86/NY 17 east then lost them.

I wouldn't be surprised if it does. I think it might be a matter of time.

They are still in business. It was sad to see them loose the Marine one contract. I have seen some postings from them for engineers so they may be creeping back to life on a small scale. I am not aware of any big contracts for them lately.

They exemplify the "curse" of this area. So many people from technicians to managers were counting on the big Marine one helicopter contract. I wonder how many people bought houses in the area in anticipation of a comfortable life

San Antonio Texas just voted number one for jobs in the US, that is job growth. On that same note, Bridgeport and surrounding areas of Conn. was voted most bleak. What you see today is the older regions succumb to joblessness and decay, while regions such as the state of Texas grow significantly.

With China owning all our debt, and Obama's plan to do away with the Bush tax cuts, it will be up to these states and regions to do what they can to attract growth.

2001 was the year that put an end to the excelled growth of the late 1990s, and the nation as a whole has been held captive with a foreign policy that just sucks resources and monies into these wars, all while other nations like Brazil and China grow and foster larger middle classes.

It is time to see that the country has been hijacked by this National Security State. The trends analyst Gerald Celente has got the same complaint as I do, and he has been an award winning trends analyst for 30 years, focusing much of economics.

So have your bloody hatred of Muslims and people who live in villages with dirt roads, and keep killing them. Do that and you will never see the growth that was known in the late 1990s. Binghamton will remain what it has been since IBM closed shop.

I can only post based on my own experience. My husband and I moved here in June 2011 from the midwest. We have relocated several times in our life and this by far has been the hardest. We have yet to have any neighbors welcome us to the community (the other 4 areas we relocated to we always had neighbors come meet us). We have gone to meet our neighbors only to be treated coldly. My husband took a job in the area. We bought a house (god knows why). We have tried to meet people by attending community events. Moving to NY is not a pleasure.....The community treats us like outsiders. Everything is old. Restaurants are mediocre. We get to pay more taxes and pay more for just about everything. YOu would think with the state of affairs in Binghamton , people would be hapy to have someone new in their area. Spending $, paying taxes, working, and general good citizens
Until the community accepts outsiders, values what we bring to the area..I have little hope for the Tri Cities. I was surprised there is no rail service (only bus) to any of the major cities. Then again people here probably wouldn't use it as they seem to be happy just staying in Binghamton! ugh! Sorry to say we came in with a positive attitude and can't wait to get out. Happy to take any suggestions.

Generally the southern tier (I'm from there) and counties around it are not accepting of outsiders. Same as much of Pennsylvania. People are weary and suspicious.

Not sure why. Guess it's the old "we don't take kindly to you folk" stereotype lingering.

I would suggest maybe checking out areas on the Ontario plains, out of the hills. People there are much nicer and more modern and you can find a lot of nice stores and such. Areas around cities like Rochester and Canandaigua are nice.

If you'd like to stay in the hills for the beauty of it, I personally know Ithaca to be a nice town. There are some hard cases, but I've known a lot of good people there. It's a college town too, so generally forward and active.

I'm sorry your experience has been rotten. Sadly that's... that's a lot of Appalachian New York. I mean, there are good people, but they are hard to find if you have no roots in the state.
