I agree totaly with Derek. I grew up in a small rural town just outside of Kingston and went to school there myself. It is a very scenic area, but it also has a much older demographic and you will not find young college professionals in either place. The schools in both places are mediocre at best, and Kingston in particular has struggled with a lack of good paying jobs since IBM pulled out of there in the mid 1990's. New Paltz has a State University and a college night life, but it is a lot more expensive to live there and also lacks economic opportunities for young college graduates. This is the bottom line and it is not my opinion at all; most young college graduates that grew up in these two areas and left to go off to college somewhere else did not return after graduation because of the lack of economic opportunities in this region. That is a fact my friend that can't be disputed. I myself have friends that went off to college and did not return for that very same reason. Good luck.
