Default Renting in Rockland or Orange

Hi All:

My husband and I (and our 2 small kids) are looking for a place in either Rockland or Orange county. We currently rent in Suffern, NY but due to some unfortunate circumstances have to move out of our place. The problem is everything is so unaffordable in our area. We are looking to spend between 1200 and 1600 for a 3 bedroom, and are looking for a place with a good school district (son turns 5 next year), and not too bad of a commute for either of us.

My husband works in Suffern, and I work in the City. I dont mind a commute as long as its reasonable. We were contemplating moving to Middletown, but after reading all the comments on middletown decided against it. (great feedback everyone )

Does anyone have any reccomendations on where to move that is somewhat affordable?

Thanks!

Renting in Suffern or Rockland County is more expensive compared to Orange County. You might try to look into Checter, if you like townhome / condo style living. There might be something to fit your needs there. They also have the commuter bus to NY and is a nice place to live in general. Many things to do and lots of space to do it. Chester is about 30 minutes from Suffern, but you would have a toll on the NYS Thruway, or you can take Rte 17 to avoid the toll to Suffern.

I agree that Orange County will have to be the place to look on your budget; you'll most likely not find much of anything at all in a town with a good school district for what you can spend on a 3 bedroom. It's unfortunate, but Rockland is just booming with higher and higher prices for...well, everything, heh. Wagons north, friend!
