Wow. Thank you for those pictures.....especially of Highland Park.
45 years ago I was a kid there.....in a place called Park Manor. I lived on Park Manor Blvd, right off of Hooper Road.
Park Manor was brand new around 1963.......there were only about 5 houses built there. Our back yard backed up to Highland Park. Then the park had nothing but a hill that we used to sled down. That was before any Merry-go-round, before any pool.
There was nothing on Hooper road. We built a treefort in an old apple tree over there.
Last time I was down there was about 30 years ago. I have no idea how Park Manor is now.....back then it was a really nice upper middle class neighborhood....most people there worked for IBM back then. That was a lifetime ago.

Wow.....I remember those streets!
I was so young then, so everything is foggy, but it looks familiar. We were at 1202 Park Manor Blvd. Of course, my parents were the first owners. I remember them saying that they got a good deal because the builders went belly-up, and they had to finish the house themselves.
I think another street off of Park Manor was Manhattan Ave. That one picture was the first street to the right of Park Manor when you drove in, but I don't remember the name of it.
Across Hooper Road there was nothing....then they built a big "Giant" supermarket, but that is all that was there. Ruined our tree fort. I remember before we moved up on the other end of the development, (by that time there were many houses on the block), they built some apartments named JFK apartments. We really were not allowed to go that far though.
On our block, (Park Manor, Manhattan, and that other street) there were over 300 kids. We had an asssociation then , so there were block parties, and a Halloween parade, etc. This was back in the mid 1960's. I think I still have pictures from back then....all vacant lots, no grass.
I've really enjoyed this.......thank you.

JFK apartments are still there; much older now, of course. My parents lived in them when they first moved to the area years ago.

Thanks upstate uk !!
Great pics. I'm sure so much has changed in 30 years. We used to go to a swimming pool in the E-J park...it was huge, (to a little kid ) and completely round, a huge round pool. My Dad was good friends with the owner of a gold driving range and putt-putt next to IBM country club. I went to an elementary school in Endicott called George H Nichols school.......I do not know if any of that is even there any more.
If it is not an inconvenience, i'd love to see a few more pics of Park Manor. I wonder how different the house looks where I grew up.....1202 Park Manor Blvd. And how much highland Park has changed. If you cannot, that's understandable..........what you've already posted has been a treat.
thanks! Frank D.
