It's a nonsense plan and does nothing for those of us who don't regularly cross 10 times a month. Personally, I'm fed up with the ridiculous tolls and am working on a plan to never pay them again. The whole concept of the Port Authority is the anti-thesis of democracy: an extra-governmental organization not at all accountable to the voters and bi-state which negates what little impact we can have by voting out our respective governors.

Thankfully, Mike Grimm is not letting up on these fools and will hopefully get something done in Congress being that these bridges are connected to the Interstate Highway System.

Couldn't view it, but the tolls are ridiculous on the Verrazano, GW and tunnels are extortion. The money spent is how many times over the original cost of these bridges built how many decades ago??? Use gas taxes or get an EZ-Pass-like device for all cars to collect info on miles driven and where and tax accordingly, probably a combination of the two to make it more democratic. We spend millions to maintain toll booths and pay toll collectors, and the toll costs always go up, but the bridges don't get any wider.

I also avoid the tolls when I can. I'll take the Harlem River bridges and Queensboro, avoiding the Triboro when I can, and the Tappan Zee to avoid the GW into NY, the traffic is usually a bit more bearable if my mileage is worse and end up spending about the same with the increased gallon of gasoline spent.

Most people don't mind tolls - as long as it's not extortion. For example look at the Hudson River crossing north of the Tappan Zee Bridge. For the past 12 years it was $1 RT. Starting Monday it's going to be $1.25 for Ezpasss and $1.50 for cash. One hike in more then a decade!? Is this something the MTA or PA can do? hah!
