Can anyone tell me a little bit about this property/area? I've been doing some looking online and wondered if this was a decent place? We've sorta decided that if I do get the job, I'll go up alone and do a rental while hubby stays here to wrap up the school year with our daughter and then we can spend the summer doing the transition once school is out and I've had a chance to sort of settle in and get some bearings.

Cayuga Heights is a very nice suburb of Ithaca that is in the town of Ithaca and in the Ithaca City SD. It isn't far from shopping or the Cornell campus either.

That area isn't really Cayuga Heights, it's Northeast Ithaca. Which doesn't make too much difference except that the elementary school is different (not sure how old your daughter is). Both are excellent though. That particular street is actually really lovely, INCREDIBLY quiet, actually borders on the Cornell Bird Sanctuary, thus the name. And it's also pretty close to campus--maybe a 5 minute drive? with three stop signs, to give you a sense of how un-stressful that commute is. I don't know if you enjoy bicycling, but it's actually the perfect spot to commute in by bike in Ithaca; only a very slight incline going in that direction from campus. We regularly ride to the bird sanctuary. It's on the opposite side from downtown, but is still about 10 minutes' drive to the busy strip of grocery stores, fun shops, etc.

Watch the school districts in that area, east side of Sapsucker Woods Rd is actually Dryden school (although much of Town of Dryden is in Ithaca City SD, the Dryden Central SD actually does extend to the town line right thereabouts)

Interesting and this website is good for showing school district boundaries: Dryden Central School District - Dryden NY

You also search for what school district an address is in here: http://www.greatschools.org/cgi-bin/...ed/NY/#address

Some of the older homes in Cayuga Heights are beautiful if they're in your price range (some homes are rather mansion-like). Worth taking a look. Living near the downtown is nice, even if you're looking for something "suburban" keep in mind Ithaca is a much smaller place than you're used to so it won't be that busy. For downtown Ithaca, the western parts are the best deal (homes around $150k) but some are a bit run down.

Winters will be a shock, summers are gorgeous.

A 5 minute drive sounds heavenly!!! Right now, I live 16 miles from my job and it takes 45 minutes IN GOOD TRAFFIC to get to it. And that is IF there's no wreck, it's not raining, there's no construction, etc.

Oh, did I mention that at least once a week a tractor trailer jack-knifes somewhere on 285?? Driving here is like an obstacle course on steroids.

Thanks. I heard back from Cornell yesterday. They want to bring me in for an interview. Hopefully I can interview on a Friday and then take Saturday to look around a bit at the neighborhood.

If you have some extra time, check out Stewart Park, the Commons, Wegmans Supermarket and Buttermilk Falls.
