Information on Fishkill, New York
I am currently living in Florida, looking for employment. There is a possibility of a job in Fishkill, New York. Can anyone tell me about the area itself and the surrounding areas? How affordable is it? What is the average cost of housing? Appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Do a search on "dutchess county" you will get tons of info. Fishkill is fine...there are some seedy areas and some very posh ones, very suburbs and family-ish. All towns here in dutchess run right into one another, So you can be "in and out" of one town within a matter of minutes..so its hard to pinpoint just one..but rather the county itself.

Fishkill covers quite a area-it's both the town and the village. In the town, homes can range from 160's(condos) up to the $800,000 range. The village part has 3 condo/apartment complexes ranging from $140-300,000 or so). Depends on what type job your looking for-Fishkill has become a mix of hotels, medical, and retail(the Gap distribution center is here also). Rent here can be pricey-apartments down on Merritt Blvd are some of the highest.
As to questionable areas-Fishkill really doesn't have them. Some of our outlying neighbors(friends have said this) say that if you don't live in the town of Fishkill or nearby East Fishkill, if you move into certain areas(Dutchess Park, the Village), your slumming it. Most homes in Dutchess Park are raised ranches built in the early 70's. In the Village-there's a mix of historical, 1930'-60's capes, and raised ranches. The Hunts Development(across from Fishkill Rural Cemetery) were built in the early 60's-70's. Or you've got the Homesites(built during the same time with some built as recent as last year-mostly ranches, raised ranches and now colonials. Down off Baxtertown, you've got a mix of condos, townhomes and newer homes all built in the later 80's.
Down off Rt.9D-there's been a huge explosion of new homes built in recent years-big, pricey ones(anything over $400,000 to me is pricey, lol). Nice neighborhoods and near the Dutchess Stadium-although in the town of Fishkill-they attend Beacon schools(which aren't too bad from what I've been hearing through the grapevine at work-another school district here).
There's plenty of choices for homes, nice areas, and jobs are here.

Hudson Valley is a beatiful area
The Hudson Valley is so beautiful, you will love living on the Hudson River. You can sit by the water anytime you want, either at a Yaught Club, a Bar or there are plenty of parks up & down the River. I'ts close enough for a train ride to NYC, a drive up North to Lake George, Catskills, or Jersey to the Beach. I left 2yrs ago - (temp. move) I will be moving back one day.

I grew up in Beacon (right next to Fishkill). It is a great area. I don't know of any "bad" areas to speak of in Fishkill. As with all places, some parts are nicer then others.
Take a trip and go and look at the area. You will love it.

i WOULD STAY IN FLORIDA
My family just moved to Fishkill , to say the least, the experience has not been very good at all.The people encountered so far have not been very friendly, It seems like it's one big click and they don't want any new comers . They have gone out of their way to be rude.thoughtless and extremely inconsiderate to my family. We had hoped it would of been a nice place to raise kids and make new friends, all the while teaching the children to have manners and be polite and kind to everyone, however, this certainly hasn't been the experience.

Fishkill New York, I Would Do Some Intense Research
I would suggest you read all the information you can before moving there, especially if you have children , you'll want to to check out city data.com , if their information is correct they are saying according to some research :" the ratio of number of residents to the number of registered S.O. is 10 to 1 in the year 07, something like 183 registered S. O. are living in Fishkill. "

The reason why there are so many registered sex offenders is because of the prison located in Fishkill. Many of the data you find regarding Fishkill is invalid because of this.
