New York State Might Name March 29 Vietnam Veterans Day
Last Tuesday I brought over a letter to State Senator Andrew Lanza's office. On Friday afternoon Senator Lanza called me and told he he
was 100% in favor of this idea and it was well derserving and a look time coming.
he told me that he would get it up to Albany as a Bill and try to push it along as quickly as he can to get into the hands of Gov Spitzer.
I also gav him a copy of the proclomation that Dann sent me. He said as soon as heard from Albany he would call me again. He also stated that he would like to have it in place before March 29, 2008.
I will stay in touch with you . I wil also link your web site to our VVA Chapter web site.
Lester
Senator Andrew J. Lanza
District 24
Dear Senator Lanza
For almost 35 years now, Vietnam Veterans have had an underlying need to hear four little words, Thank You and Welcome Home.
A movement began a number of month*s ago to have March 29th declared Vietnam Veterans Day. The state of Tennessee has it already implanted in their system. Minnesota will follow in September. The state of Georgia has already started their preliminary work, and the State of California too.
I have been in touch with a fellow Vietnam Veteran from Tennessee and have put together a proclamation that we can use to get the ball rolling.
On March 29, 1974 Richard Nixon declared March 29th, Vietnam Veterans Day, but that was only for that year. We are now asking that now and forever that March 29th be declared Vietnam Veterans Day. Enclosed is a sample of the proclamation. We hope that you will help us with this task.
Respectfully
Lester Modelowitz

Thank you
Thanks for the info on Mar 29th. I hope and pray NY will become the third state supporting this date. And I want to say "thanks for a job well done and welcome home soldier". You have a wonderful site which i put in my favorites, along with your book. I am going to be spending quite a bit of time there. Thanks for all the work you have done and God Bless You.

Wow! Why aren't there more replies on this thread? This should have been enacted years ago. Thank you to all Vietnam vets. It is atrocious how you were treated when you came home. You deserve this day of rememberance.

I read your post and found it very interesting as to how many folks think it is about time our Vietnam Veterans were thanked and welcomed home properly. I am posting this for your information. On June 25, 2007 the United States Congress unanimously passed Congresswoman Linda T. Sanchez's bill H. Res 189 proclaiming March 30, 2008 as the first national WELCOME HOME VIETNAM VETERANS DAY. The bill now sits on the President's desk, waiting for his approval and signature. You can help out by urging the White House to sign our bill. Just visit our WELCOME HOME VIETNAM VETERANS DAY web site at: www.whvvd.org]www.whvvd.org or you can contact us by email at: whvvd@aol.com We began this campaign in Whittier, Ca. back in 2000 and now after much time and work, it is almost a reality. We still need help to urge the White House to do the right thing. I sure hope you can help us out by spreading the word, signing one of our "yellow postcards" to the President asking him to sign the bill, or by ordering your batch of postcards to have your friends & family to sign and mail. Now is the time for us to all come together and ask the White House to do the right thing. Thank you and may God bless.

Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day-march 30
My fellow Veterans and fellow Americans-it is with such great happiness and pleasure that I post this message. On march 30, 2008 at California High School in Whittier, CA. over 3,000 people attended our FIRST but certainly not our last WHVVD celebration. The day started out cold and rainy, but by 10:00 AM the sun was shinning and folks were smiling. We had three Congressional Reps who sponsored H. Res. 189 and of course Congresswoman Linda T. Sanchez who introduced the bill and had it pass UNANIMOUSLY on June 25, 2007. It was because of her Resolution that the US Senate then introduced and also unanimously passed thier own resolution S. Res. 269 on November 19, 2007. We had over 1,700 Veterans sign our book and recieve thier yellow ribbon along with a small American flag to show they had served. We estimate another few hundred came in but did not choose to sign our book for thier own personal reasons. I am going to make this post a short one, because thier are some really large things in the making for 2009 and thewre will be much more to tell you in the next few weeks. It would be cool if all who read this post, respond to it with your thoughts about WHVVD and of how we can make this happen in ALL 50 states? Now that we have established that WHVVD is a grand thing for ALL our Veterans, we need to get folks out there to help make it happen in your state. We can and will help with whatever questions you might have to make your state hole a successful WHVVD. Now that so many YOUNG WARRIORS are coming home, it is more important that we make this day happen, because at our event two weeks ago, we made it a point to identify and recognize ALL WHO SERVED, especially our young men and women of todays military. So now we KNOW America wants this day of recognition folks. Now it is up to us to deliver it. We wore the uniform with pride, we served our country with honor, now let's once again unite to make WHVVD a complete and honorable day FOR ALL WHO SERVED next March 30, 2009!! Thank you all for allowing me to post. God bless you, God bless America and ALL it's Veterans!!
