From personal observation over many years I can say that there are some quite nice homes & neighborhoods in the Oneida, Oneida Castle, Sherrill, Verona, Vernon, Wampsville, Canastota area. Maybe Oneida citizens/residents just need to "clean-up"/"improve" the "ghetto" "crime" neighborhood of Oneida rather than "bad-mouth" that whole "Metro" area (if you can call it a Metro) and "bad-mouth" the whole >>Upstate<< New York Region=it simply isn't true that all (if any) of Upstate New York is undersireable or "done-for". I can't believe that all the middle-class people living in those nice & upscale homes in those "Metro" villages are crime & drug elements/people=they are probably nice, decent, upstanding, middle-class residents for the most part.

And we live in hiding. Its a small town. You show at a meeting to bulldoze downtown and your the target that night.

Moving out of state is the only option.

I've traveled much of this nation, 35 states and counting. The USA is a great nation, some rough parts sure but overall sound. Upstate NY has allowed itself to get to this point. And now Upstate has to reap what its sown. Some like me hate it cause we know better, others just think the whole nation is shot and its all like NY. Its not. The USA is still a great country to live in outside NY.

Trust me, there are much worse places than what you've seen in your part of the state. It isn't even close and I'm sure that many people in the states you've been to can tell similar stories.

Also, how did we get from the original post to this?
