Dunkirk is over run with Illegal Aliens these days. Mostly farm laborers employed by the grape industry. They come to pick and decide to stay as the free welfare and food debit card is better than anything they have back in Mexico. Sorry to burst your bubble but it't true. Spanish is the dominant language in downtown Dunkirk. Was just there last week. Crime is out of control.

Yeah, crime is out of control, compared to a corn field
Sorry to burst your bubble, but I have only been gone 5 months. If anything it has improved in that time period.
And sorry but those aren't mexicans you saw
Yes, Dunkirk is little puerto rico, my girlfriend is a quarterican as she likes to call it (quarter puerto rican for those who need to be spoonfed) I don't mind minorities, especially when they aren't harming the community. Hey, we need grape pickers, without them the grapes would be stuck on the vine. None of us white folk seem to be willing to do it.
Yeah, there are some thugs and there is a ghetto in town, but its not like its Buffalo even, it has like 12,000 people. Its really a nice little city.
Sorry you don't seem to like anything about living in WNY.
Maybe you shouldn't be so quick to judge. Since you know they are mexican, im also sure you know they are illegal. haha

itSmellsBAD, is there a reason for your negativity? I've looked back at your other comments on other threads and it seems like you focus on the negative quite a bit.
I hope you're not as unhappy as your posts make you seem.

Statistical food for though re: crime in Dunkirk
Moderator cut: link removed
It doesn't look too bad to me. Actually, every category of crime in Dunkirk is lower than the national average. Murder is the exception, but if you look at the data, there was one murder in the statistical year. This skewed the stat on murder to 2% higher than the national average because of the size of the population.

Yep, there have been a couple murders over the years but they have ALL been drug related. Unless you are into doing drugs with thugs, you should be fine
I would mention though that the schools aren't the greatest. They aren't TERRIBLE, but they have had their problems. It is more due to the overwhelming amount of puerto ricans who end up not being able to speak english than anything else, and in the past year or so they have been doing quite a bit to change the learning atmosphere, including getting alot of new teachers. Many were getting to retirement age and they didn't know how to reach students who were much different than they were. Now that there has been a major turnover, it has changed quite a bit.

Real Estate agents like yourself should be HONEST when asked questions by potential buyers. Your occupation is obvious.

MURDER is an EXCEPTION????? That's one heck of an exception if you ask me! Especially for a 'nice small town' with 12000 people. Come on.......you sell real estate right? Tough times these days with all the For Sale signs in Western NY. Come clean, you're a realtor right?........real estate agents are equal to used car salesman and ambulance chaser lawyers....esecially in a down market like WNY.

LMAO! Yes, Dunkirk is a huge crime city, what a crock. I was just there for a year, opened up a business, helped coach the Varsity Football team, hung out at Walleye Willies right next to, gulp, 2nd street, went to the Puerto Rican social club numerous times and the exempt club right next door and , gulp, off of 2nd st. Oh yeah, I'm a white boy.. lol I didn't hear as many sirens as I did in Phoenix, where I am now for the past 20 years or Tucson for 2 years. I unfortunately had to leave that area (WNY) to come back here (PHX) to sell a house, which I did and now I'm heading back to my slice of heaven...
Oh yeah, You know what I saw in Dunkirk and the small towns? Good hearted and fun loving people. Does Dunkirk have it's share of problems, heck yes, but to label it as a crime ridden crap hole is simply asinine!

OH MY GOSH!
I live in FLORIDA!
I am a TEACHER.
I'm trying to get information from people who like the area, people who want to move back to the area or already have. It's not that I'm only interested in the positive. It's just that your persistently negative comments have reached the point where they are counterproductive.
BTW, if you average out the number of murders over seven years between 1999 and 2005 (4 total), you will find that there is an average of .57 murders per year. That brings the murder rate down far below the national average. Is murder good? No, of course not, but it can happen anywhere. The important thing is that murder in Dunkirk is not a pervasive problem. Rather, it is an infrequent event. One's statistical chance of being murdered in Dunkirk is significantly lower than most places in the nation.
In addition, all other subsets of crime are well below the national average. Doesn't sound bad to me at all.

Again, no I'm not a realtor. I simply cannot stand having a place torn apart with no credible information whatsoever, so I did some fact checking.
