Cool Mountains Upstate - Best places to live...

Anyone recommend any great towns in the mountains upstate, catskills or southern pt. of the adirondacks. (Looking to be 5 hrs to Miller Place LI, my ex has agreed to let us go that far) We prefer artsy or hippie types over materialistic types, do not need to be near many jobs but would like a safe area with a decent school w nice kids, and we would really love most to be high up in the mountains. Thanks.

Woodstock in the Catskills, but it's nestled in the valley rather than high up in the mountains. Artsy, hippy, organic & groovy (with deer grazing in the yards). Love it!

sounds awesome, right up our alley. havent seen many on mls in our range though. sounds like i want to be up high and close enough to visit there. the more hippie mystical type place the better

my late uncle had an awesome place in the mountains i loved but cant remember where, the people were really nice up there.

What's your budget look like? It might help determine where you look. There is quite a bit to offer, just need a little information to point you in the right direction.

It's somwhat cheaper in the northern Catskills. You can get places at 2000-2300 foot altitude up in southern Schoharie County, perhaps near Patria, Summit, Jefferson, etc. It's not clear how artsy these places are, however.

There's quite a bit in your price range in Greene county. Just don't know how you will like rural living. Woodstock is about 45 minutes from here. Do a search on local schools to see what you like first. Just remember, test scores don't tell the whole story.
