And now for something completely different (but oh so Ithaca):
Fall Creek Neighborhood Porchfest
On Sunday, Sept. 23 from 3-6 p.m., some of Ithaca's finest musicians will play music on their porches. To hear them, grab a map at one of four locations: GreenStar, Guitar Works, Gimme Coffee on Cayuga Street, and the “Bell Park” at Yates & Cayuga streets.
And then walk, skip, bike or rollerblade around the Fall Creek neighborhood to take in the sounds of this free event. If you have questions or want to get involved, contact festival organizers Gretchen Hildreth and Lesley Greene at
magooblue@hotmail.com.
Ever wondered about those sounds coming from your neighbor's house? Do you live near a well-known musician but rarely get to hear her play? Ithaca is a town rich in musical talent, and Porchfest is a music festival designed to highlight some of that talent in a fun new way.
Porchfest features a wide range of musical styles. Among the performers are popular Ithaca bands Five2, acoustic Sim Redmond Band, Shoot the Moon, Vitamin L, Mostly Motown, Nate & Kate, the Contradictions, and the Yardvarks, and musicians Johnny Russo & Doug Robinson, Dave Davies, Vikki Armstrong, Rick Manning, Harry Aceto, and Jan Nigro. Other groups offer musical styles ranging from roots rock to Dixieland jazz, and from opera to country western.
And there is music from around the world, too: Three Bean Soup plays fiddle tunes from the U.S., Canada, and the British Isles, Malang Jobateh plays the West African kora, and Kunga Delotsang & Friends play traditional Tibetan music.
When the music is done at 6 p.m., grab a picnic dinner and your instruments and head to the Auburn Street “triangle” park for more fun and music.

The group below looks like Madrigal singers, but was called Mostly Motown.
