I'm now down here visiting my sister, and we visited Howe Caverns today. We wanted to go the short way via interstate, but we didn't and got "semi-lost" in Midstate NY. (We were going the right way, but it took 1 or 2 hours more than we'd planned). Anyway, we ended up on Route 143.
And...wow. You people who live in that area should be proud of your area, because the Catskill region is one of the most beautiful regions that I have ever seen. I also LOVED the charming little towns we went through. I guess all states have something they can be proud of...In New York, one of those things are the Catskills and the surrounding region. ![]() |

We vacation in the Catskills and Hudson Valley every September. Driving from the Niagara Falls area, after passing Syracuse, we always get off the Thruway and angle down on the smaller regional highways and back roads. We try to take a different route every time. They're almost all scenic, with the fabulous views and vistas increasing as we get closer to the Catskills. We've explored many of the the small, charming towns of midstate. Getting lost is definitely part of the fun. As Canadians, we've probably explored more of NY that many native NYers

Ya it's starting to peak and the locals say the conditions are right for a stellar year unless we get a frost and it seems like we are at least a few weeks away from that.
And up here your not even a local unless your family came here 120 years or more ago. I don't qualify... But it is very very nice... |
