Greenwood Lake, NY: Kids?
We're very interested in moving to Greenwood Lake, NY. Does anyone know if it's kid-friendly? I get the sense that there are many vacation homes... it doesn't have to be perfect: I just heard a rumor that there's crime in Greenwood Lake and want to make sure we're not missing something.
(If there is a specific thread that discusses this, please post the link. I did a few searches here but couldn't find anything.)
Thanks so much for any advice you can give!

Kids and Greenwood Lake
Well it seems like a nice place when you pass it on your way up north. But my wife and I live near there and it seems at times to be a bit slumy. I would say that maybe move up a bit north, Warwick or just outside(NOT MIDDLE TOWN) and you'll find that it has more for kids to do.
Greenwood Lake, nice to visit but I've never seen the kids doing much but hanging out by the CVS parking lot. You do have lake stuff in the summer and Mt. Peter is a little ways up the road in the winter. But to me, it has always seemed forgoten as towns go.
West Milford NJ is not too bad, but it's Jersey and the Taxes are creeping up do to some over sized home being built (EVERYWERE). Again it's Jersey..
Look into the towns around the Woodberry outlets. Just to let you know that my wife and I live in Hewitt NJ, next to Greenwood Lake and we are moving up to the Adirondacks, trying to get as far from Jersey as we can. Hope I helped, good luck.

Agree with everything just said....my wife and I live in Warwick and the difference between the two villages is huge...CVS and the local gas station are two of the main attractions for kids downtown...

kids and things to do
Warwick is a great place to raise kids..I just moved here and I am truly surprised on all the activities the school offers for children...Even my five year old has things to do...It is a really nice place to live..A bit to quiet for me but then again I am still adjusting. Warwick is the place....

I agree that Warick is a little nicer than Greenwood Lake, but I'm partial, I live there. Greenwood Lake is also charming depending on where you are. Let's also not forget that Greenwood Lake IS part of Warwick. Also, please do not be turned off by some kids hanging out somewhere and remember, teenagers are teenagers and they all do that anywhere you go.
Make sure you make the decision yourself based on your likes and dislikes, not everyone elses.

Thank so much for your post. I was actually asking about little kids (I have a toddler); sorry I didn't make that clear. We really like both Greenwood Lake and Warwick because they are away from the kinds of places you find near the outlets and shopping... we prefer *not* to be in the middle of all that sprawl.
Greenwood Lake is more in our price range than Warwick, though. I won't be turned off by where the teenagers hang out. (Right now we live in an expensive, elite area with tons of shopping and there are still roving packs of teens hanging out, throwing rocks at each other, etc.)

We saw the fireworks there this year for the first time at the lake and I was amazed at the sense of community there....there was atleast 30-40 kids on a stage dancing around to the dj's music. It was a good time and reminded me of when I was a kid. It's great there.
There also is a good deal to choose from on the market if you are looking to purchase which will insure you a good deal as a lot of the homes have been on the market quite a while.
Let me know if you need any help at all, I live only about 10 minutes away in Warwick.
