Hey guys,
I was reading up on the internet and they said the trail starts at Black Mountain Point (can get there only by boat).... anyone know if it means private boat only or do they offer a drop and a pick up service that runs off at certain intervals.

Has anyone here done the hike from the Trailhead ? I see that there is an alternate trailhead off the Pike brook road, but its just about 2 miles and also its easier. On google maps there seems to be a road that goes to the north from the Shelving Rock, any idea where that leads to ?

Any help is appreciated.

There is no drop and pick up service. You will have to rent a boat if you want to hike it from the lake. I have done it from the Pike Brook trailhead a couple of times and it was a nice hike. You can also get to Buck and/or Black Mountains from the trailhead for Sleeping Beauty Mountain off of Buttermilk Falls Road that is off of State Route 149 that runs between US Route 9 in Queensbury and Route 22. Follow the directions to the Mountain Trail in the following webpage:

Thanks for the info.
We will plan to do the Pike Brook thing. Is there a good resting area near the ponds ?

Wow, it's been many years since I hiked it so I honestly don't remember. I've hiked so many trails in the Adirondacks, the memories of them have all kind of blended together.
