I've just joined this site, and I've enjoyed reading the posts about Plattsburgh. I actually have in-laws that live there, and we visit a few times a year. I have to say, Plattsburgh is absolutely beautiful geographically. Would actually love to relocate closer to our relatives, however, I find it to be very economically depressed. I'm from the Binghamton area, which is very depressed itself, but Plattsburgh seems a little worse. What industry to they have? Seems like jobs are kind of hard to come by also. Based off of what I've seen, I would be hesitant to relocate there, as I don't know that life would be too great given the economy. I could be wrong though - given that I don't live there! And again, it is SO pretty up there!
Would be interested in signing up if there is a new Plattsburgh Blog.
Sounds like it would be a good place to pool some ideas together........
I was just messing around 10 days ago and started one: http://Champlaintaste.blogspot.com (broken link)
Be glad to add some administrators so it's not just my boring ill-informed newcomer opinions. If you want to take a look, try to make a comment. One visitor made a comment, then wasn't able to again. Think the broader site administrator, blogger, is fixing some bugs in the system.

Hi - Well, I was born and raised in Clinton County and lived there for 60 years. We just moved to So.Carolina this past spring. As for quality of life, Plattsburgh is superb. People are friendly, the work ethic is strong and there is something for everyone. The crime rate, compared to most other areas, is enough reason to live there. As far as entertainment , etc., there are many good local theater companies, plenty of day trips to be taken through local travel agencies and clubs (casinos, short trips to NYC, Montreal, Albany, etc) and New Hampshire and Massachusetts are only a few hours away.
We miss Plattsburgh and our friends, but not the snow!.I grew up in Rouses Point - small town- and lived in Plattsburgh for 36 years. By the time we moved, people who knew us assumed we were born and raised in Plattsburgh - my husband came from West Virginia. And yes, you can strike up a conversation with someone while picking out peaches in the grocery store, or at the orchard picking out "just-picked" apples or at the farmers market picking out fresh corn or herbs. There are small local museums everywhere and plenty of outdoor activities to keep you busy. Hiking, swimming, boating, skiing, biking or even taking the Port Kent Ferry as a foot passenger to Burlington,Vt for a day of lunch and shopping in Burlington. If you would rather do concerts or more "urban" activities, Montreal is very close and would have much to keep you happy. Saratoga, Lake George and Albany are all within a couple of hours and also provide much entertainment. I could go on , but I think you get the idea. You have the choice of relaxing in your backyard ( really relaxing) or stepping out and raising a ruckus! The best of both worlds!!
I live on Cumberland head and i do love the traffice being alot less. It is great

Dan Stewart was a great cheerleader for Plattsburgh...I hope the new mayor keeps his enthusiasm alive.
How is the downtown/waterfront hotel project coming along? I havent been over there for a while. Also need to check out the new road through Cumberland Head. I bet the folks along the old road are psyched not to have all that traffic go by!

roosterlady, where did you live?? in Platts. proper or around there. Looking to move there( peru and or saranac school systems) but not getting much action on my clinton county thread.
Hi Taboo - I lived in the City of Plattsburgh for 35 years and lived just outside for a year before that.I was born and raised in Rouses Point - about 25 miles North. When we lived in Plattsburgh, I worked for the city schools and my hubby worked for the city. My 3 children got their education in the city schools. I am partial to the area, but now that we've moved away, I'm more aware of just how great the area is - especially the quality of life and the strong work ethic. Sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees!
Hi Roosterlady.... I am writing this to you while sitting in your old neighborhood. We are in Plattsburgh house hunting and havin' a ball. The area is great, the people are great and I wish I did not have to go back home, but the dog misses us
The job I had applied for at SUNY Plattsburgh and didn't get (back in 2006) is open again. (The prof who got it is moving to Boston from what I've heard.) I'm thinking of applying again.
Please bring me up to date on the economy and social climate of Plattsburgh. Since three years have passed since my last post on this thread, I'm a bit more settled and apprehensive about making such a big move (from MN) to Plattsburgh. Then again, I'm not particularly "sold" on the job I did get in godforsaken Fargo, ND, which I have dubbed "the edge of nowhere."
