Looking to relocate to Upstate NY
My family and I are seriously looking into relocating to Upstate New York sometime next year. We are flying into JFK Thanksgiving week and plan to see the parade then drive up to Syracuse, Rochester then Buffalo then back to NYC to fly home.
I have looked into Ithaca and some of the smaller towns. We are looking to spend around 150 - 200K. I promised my little girl a horse so I'm looking for a house with a barn and a few acres. As long as I don't have to drive an hour to find civilization I'm open to suggestions.
Also if anyone has a good recommendation for a restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner in the Syracuse area please post up.

Near Syracuse are the towns of Cazenovia and Chittenango. My sister lived there for years. It is farm country well within reach of Syracuse. Besides a butt load of snow it is a nice place to live (and still CHEAP!!)
Check it out!
GOod luck!

Don't forget to check out the areas further West, the land is very cheap and there is plenty of it for a horse!

Southern Cayuga County isn't a bad choice either, since you can be in Ithaca in 20 minutes or Syracuse in about 40-45.

Try this site for a Thanksgiving dinner. It's owned and run by a large local turkey farm that is well known called -
Plainville Farms, LLC.. The restaurant is in Cicero in the northern burbs of Syracuse.

Oneonta
I've been living near Oneonta the last few months. If you want horses there's plenty here. And cows and goats and alpacas and llamas and cheap housing. It's right on I88 between Albany and Binghamton so it's a relatively strategic location to decent sized urban areas. The big employers in town seem to be the universities: Hartwick and SUCO (SUNY).
