The PEOPLE IN FISHKILL NEW YORK has not been very welcoming at all to my family, my family is extremely anxious to get out, however I would suggest you read all the information you can before moving there, especially if you have children , you'll want to to check out city data.com , if their information is correct they are saying according to some research :" the ratio of number of residents to the number of registered S.O. is 10 to 1 in the year 07, something like 183 registered S. O. are living in Fishkill. "

east fishkill and fishkill are two different things...i have lived here10 yrs...
East Fishkill, lagrange, beekman, hopewell junction...basically arlington schools and certain schools in wappingers are very "desperate housewife".. Fishkill, Beacon and the city of poughkeepsie are avoidable ones. Some of the nicest developments are in IN east fishkill..and dont forget..all these towns run into each other in weird ways..you can be in one town and then in another in a matter of a mile. So dont look at towns per se...look at school districts. Again...Arlington and Wappingers schools are the most desirable areas. White Collar professionals. |

East Fishkill is a very nice area. I currently live in Fishkill, which is one town over. There are many homes in East Fishkill that are gorgeous and the school district is very good. It's a perfect family orientated area.

Being a lifelong resident-42 years, I have to disagree with some of the posters here. Fishkill is NOT anyway remotely like the Cities of Beacon or Poughkeepsie. Housing here isn't cheap either-but if your looking for a McMansion sized home, look in Beekman, Poughquag, Unionvale, Wiccopee, parts of Fishkill Plains is where you'll find homes over the 2900sq ft size. If your looking into older neighborhoods with more character, then your looking at raised ranches and capes of the 1960's-early 80's. They tend to run a bit less in price-upper 200's for handymans to 450,000 depending if they've been totally remodeled. As to the registered Sex offenders-the list is GROSSLY off. Why? Because this area-both Fishkill and Beekman/Poughquag have maximum security prisons within their boarders. They list the sex offenders residing behind prision walls-just like if you pull up Poughkeepsie-you get the incarcerated sex offenders at Dutchess County Jail. It even screwed up our census facts in 2000 because they listed the prisons in the wrong town. So that little tid bit about the sex offender from a previous poster is incorrect. We don't have a over abundance of offenders living within our neighborhoods-there are a few around, but nothing like what's in the walls of the prison.
If locals have come across as snooty I can honestly say sometimes the newbies to this are rub us the wrong way. They want US to change our ways to be like the places they've moved from-but isn't that way they moved away from all that? Instead of pushing long time locals into fitting what they believe we should be(quite a few think we are hicks), try adapting to our ways. I've had some who are incredibly snobby towards our family because we don't make $150,000 a year, drive a Lexus SUV and a BMW750I. Some of their kids refer to dating anyone who lives here in the Village of Fishkill as slumming it-nice huh? We just live within our means and enjoy life-I don't need to keep up with the Jones. As to schools-in Wappingers for Elementary Fishkill can't be beat-it's very community oriented, it's the only one directly within limits of a village and the kids get to get involved or go on walking trips quite a bit to places in the Village. Only problem is that we have then go to schools for middle and high school that are becoming severely overcrowded. In Arlington(where I work)-Unionvale, Beekman, Unionvale Middle School-then the high school is where I'd most likely look to have a family of kids go. The all have quality staff(at least the ones I have to deal with daily). Please do research these places, go to the town halls to get information about a certain area, check out homes and also ask when looking to see what taxes and utilities in that home are. Don't get a unpleasant surprise. If undecided, maybe rent for a year and see if what your looking for. Last edited by CampingMom; 11-27-2007 at 10:56 AM.. |

Aren't you asking about East fishkill? y is every one talking about fishkill? besides some areas of fishkill go to john jay hs as do east fishkill residents. so your kid might go to school with a kid from fishkill.....which is a very white and cozy little town. nothing bad about it at all, unless you purchase west of rte 9d and then your kid goes to beacon schools. which is new with state of the art facilites. just have african americans there but some of those newer homes west of 9d are nicer and worth more than the 70's raised ranches in east fishkill....so you deicde
