Post also looking!!

My wife and I are also looking...I'm just afraid that "cheap" near NYC will equate to ghetto! I guess I'm only looking for best value, just outside of NYC, (where I intend to work) and where my wife and son can walk outside without worring about what color clothes their wearing.

You and most of the NYC metro area are looking for a safe town, great schools, and cheap housing. If you want cheap in this area it will not come with safety and good schools. You get what you pay for.

It also depends on your definition of cheap and how far out are you willing to commute (1.5 hours, 2 hours, etc.).

Default Ny

I would like to only have to cummute no more than 3 hours to the city. I don't mean cheap cheap. A place where you can get a 3 or 4 bedroom for under 1,000 dollars. A town that has something to do everynight.

3 hour commute would kill me too...to clarify, when I mean cheap I mean 2 br for no more than 1400...Is that unheard of for a safe area, within 35 minutes or so to NYC? Thanks!!

I don't know that area, so I can't really help you at all...

Tasha-
Orange County will probably be your best bet...there is a lot available in Orange County but you won't be able to get into South Orange County for that price range but WELL within your 3 hr commute to the city-in fact, most of Orange should be less than 1.5 hours or less, those that commute to the city from Port Jervis would be able to give you a better idea what the commute actually is door to door--Port Jervians?

4 bedroom unless you are far out may be tough, 3 bedroom should be doable, but you won't be in the BEST town or BEST school district as a lot of the other people on this forum will tell you. As a Realtor, I can't really go into that as it's considered steering.

Best of luck to you on your search!
