I have a 6 month old daughter and a 2 yr old chi mix found a house for cheap there, I also wanna attend school boces i seen they have one there. we hate the city and want something more in the wooded area. Would it be a nice place to raise a family? i live in Kingston ny and hate it to much drug violence. and it's getting bed bug populated here. also people are rude and disrespectfull here. i want to find a small country town with nice people. plus Kingston is expensive and it's not worth no 950 a month 2 bedroom maybe even higher with nothing included for a crappy place. we live in a 1 bedroom which looks like a studio & they added a room on with no bathtub just a shower. for 725 a month and nothing included. so far i found the perfect place for the price to rent. i just need to know more about the area. and about the schools. i might Home school my daughter not sure on that yet. but if i don't i want to put her in a christian school. I have no car or licence yet but i feel if i moved down there it would push me harder to get it. do they have a hospital? or a bus rte? do they have a cardiologists? and are they nice? do they have a good kids docter office? I'm gonna do some research and call there Mayer tomo but please give me an idea thanks oh and is there black people there i am not racist but jw thanks in advance

Monticello is a dump, Lots of low lives an dead-beats, actually most (atleast Monticello village, and not Postal- Monticello) Monticello is a downgrade from Kingston. There are lots of Minorities in Monticello also, the main census tract in the village is 30% Black and 27% Hispanic.

Try Livingston Manor, Roscoe, or any other small town in the area. Jeffersonville is very nice. Monticello is not a good town, but there are nicer places in the area. Roscoe schools are good.

Montighetto ? The ARMPIT of the Catskills ! Worse than Liberty. Worse than Ellenville. A bunch of drug dealing NYC gangbangers and recently released convicts from the Woodbourne and Ellenville Pens. I gambled at that pathetic Racetrack converted into a makeshift casino a few years ago before I moved out West. Terrible. Nothing like a bush leagued casino to further enable the welfare and drug addicts that live in in Montighetto.

Sullivan County just plain sucks. Either hicks and rednecks north and west of Liberty or NYC minorities Liberty southward and eastward towards Montighetto and Ellenville.

I love how everyone pawns off every Minority north of the TZ Bridge as a NYC Transplant.

OK, so Magnum says anyone that's not a suburban yuppie or a manhattanite is a redneck hillbilly. And MPS thinks LIberty is "ghetto" because of the white people living there, ignoring the large minority population and the issues caused by the seasonal NYC residents. Yes, Liberty/Monticello have issues. A lot of the residents wish they would just go away, but it's not that simple. And in fairness, it's not like all of the minority element is a detriment or all of the white residents are upstanding citizens. But nevertheless, calling Liberty a "white ghetto" is missing the point of what makes Liberty the way it is... NYC transients and displaced low-income minorities (an dsome others) as a vestige of the collapsed former resort industry (which resulted when said NYC transients were done with them). Basically, too many people with not enough jobs and nowhere to go, and a tax base that suffers from seasonal usage, abandoned resort preoperties, and the lophole of making every bungalow colony a "religious school" that is exempt from taxation.

And anyone looking to live in western Sullivan County would be doing so to get away from the city people/yuppies/etc. so I'm sure they can see right through Magnum's provincial opinion! Anyone looking to move to a rural area is probably looking to get away from that mentality.

If you want to live in Callicoon or Narrowsburg, might as well live across the river in PA with far better taxes. If you enjoy fly fishing, farming and high taxes, live near the Delaware in Sullivan County. Gotta love those Liberty State Troopers waiting at the bottom of the hill coming into town. Got my first speeding ticket there when I was 16. Montighetto is the pits. It was the middle of the night and I spent a night at some dingy hotel right on Broadway. There was a drug deal and a porn shoot going on in the parking lot while I was checking in . It's NYC convicts that largely contribute to the demographics of both Liberty and Montighetto. They spend time in Woodbourne and Ellenville while their family awaits their releases by collecting Section 8 and welfare in Liberty and Montighetto. It's been that way since the 1970's and always will .
