looking to move to Rockland
My husband and I are currently looking to move from Astoria, Queens to Rockland. We are both educators in our late 20's (no kids yet). So far, we like Nyack and Clarkstown (mostly Congers and West Nyack). We are mostly interested in living in a quiet, safe, and liberal neighborhood with access to a variety of food. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions, especially regarding specific areas in Nyack. Thank You!

Congers and West Nyack are great if kids are in your future. Clarkstown School District is top notch, so you can't go wrong there. Just keep in mind your neighbors will for the most part already have families with kids in school. TNyack on the other hand is more than just neighborhoods, where you can walk to the downtown area and go to all the cute artsy shops and restaurants. It is definately a much more diverse area as well. Congers does have a "downtown" but its nothing like Nyack. Piermont is another waterfront villlage that you'd probably love but its big bucks.
Rockland in general has a ton of great restaurants. You definately will not have a shortage of excellent places to eat.

You could also consider New City, Pearl River and parts of Nanuet. All are great school districts. You need to be careful though with Nanuet, because some of the town is within East Ramapo School District which doesn't have the best reputation.

Everyone's suggestions were perfect. Definetely keep Clarkstown schools in mind because from what I am told by clients in the area, they are the best. Prices have become pretty competetive lately and you can really find the right home now as there is sooooo much on the market.
Good luck in your search and don't hesitate to ask questions about the area, that's what we're all here for.

Upper Nyack lies within the town of Clarkstown but does not use Clarkstown Schools so you might want to keep that in mind if kids are in the future.
Congers is great --- very, very family friendly. It's a hamlet within Clarkstown so you get all the benefits of Clarkstown schools. There is also an awesome park in Congers, and they recently re-did 'downtown'.
I'd love to help you out more, as I live in the area

Gilchrest Park (I don't think I spelled that right) is absolutely beautiful. It has a pool, a rec room, a skate park, basketball courts, walking trails. It's right off of Route 303 in Congers. My grandparents lived there and I have many happy memories of summers spent with the kids that lived in their condominium complex and hanging out in the park. There's another huge park not far from there, a state park. But Gilchrest is the one I remember best, as my grandparents lived right up the road from it.
Congers is a good choice!

Yep, Congers Lake Park is on Gilcrest Road. Rockland Lake State Park is on 9W.
Congers Lake is much nicer than Rockland Lake park because Congers Lake park is only open to Clarkstown residents and Rockland Lake gets super crowded during peak season with out of towners so many town residents don't opt to go there.

Hi DayDay,
I read your post about relocating to Rockland Couny.
My name is Rich.
Depending upon your price range and lifestyle, it varies as to
what villages and towns might suit your interests best.
My brother lives and works in Nyack and Grand View on the
Hudson.
Many of the Hudson River towns are diverse in lifestyle and an
can be an exciting place to live. Many fine restaurants,
schools and recreational activities all around the area. Only
about 16 miles from the GW Bridge and NYC.
Best Wishes,
Rich
