Can Anybody recommend a place to relocate upstate?
I was born in New York. Spent the first 18 years of my life in Nassau County and NYC. Moved to Florida 8 years ago and I need to get out of this red state. I love Florida, I can't stand the politics and the traffic and I miss NY, especially this time a year.
I don't want to live in the middle of no where I just want to feel like I do. I don't know anything about upstate except for Lake George which I often visited in the summer. I love the snow, any outdoor activity and I don't mind the cold as long as it snows a lot. I really want to live in the woods but be close enough to a city with an airport.
I want to accomplish all this and still be with in 4-4 1/2 hours from NYC and my family. Can anyone recommend a heavily wooded area possibly in the Syracuse area or easter-northeastern NY. I know I'm asking a lot but can this be done?
Thanks,
Erik

What about the Catskill area? Woodstock, Saugerties, New Paltz?
They all have culture, good restaurants, snow, lots of forest, and less than 3 hours from NY. Closest international airport would probably be Albany.

Syracuse is a little further than 4-1/2 hours, but it sure fills the bill snow-wise. Lots of great parks, plenty of things to do year round if you don't mind the cold. We moved to the area last year and love it.

Glens Falls would put you in an area you're already familiar with, not far from Lake George. It's by the mountians, not far from Albany, and a direct jaunt to NYC.
