Met this morning w/ clients who will be selling their 2500 sq ft 8 year old colonial in a nearby location for 310,000...........This area is like a crossroads...Interstate 84, NYS 17, NYS Thruway for north to Albany and still reasonably priced.

zip is Montgomery 12549, location is bullville/thompson ridge, best google Middletown though gps and directional programs get it wrong all the time. My clients from the city buying in the area do not accept the 1hr15 until they arrive early for their apts. Albany is 1hr30-to two depending where you locate in the area. Some Ulster cty locations offer quick access to both Poughkeepsie and Beacon trains..........I am just 4 min from western Ulster, 5 from lower Sullivan

I live in Montgomery as well. Although it is commutable to the city I think Kingston or Newburgh will offer a much more centralized, commuting location. I offer up Kingston because the houses and taxes are a bit cheaper. Montgomery/Pine Bush area is one of the more expensive areas to live in. Although home prices are trickling down the taxes are still expensive. And it's still 20-30 minutes to the nearest bus or train for work.

Default New Paltz or Pine Bush

You should look into New Paltz. You can commute to the City or Albany pretty easily. Plus you have the college. There are busses that get you to the city... etc. I think there are a lot of commuters. I am not sure about schools but I think you are safe with schools in a college town. We live in Pine bush and it is a really nice area. The schools have been great to my kids. Both kids went to Infant Saviour Pre school and they loved it and the teachers are excellent. It is a nice, safe friendly smallish town. Great for families. Good luck!
