So I currently live in Hawaii and I am being transferred for my job to Watertown, NY (defense contractor). (Big change I know) However, I am having difficulty finding any apartments or houses that fit my needs. I am looking for a place with washer dryer hookups not more than 30 minutes or so from Fort Drum where I will be working. Price is not really a problem could go as high as 1200 a month without blinking, but I am not finding what I want from the usual places like Trulia or Zillow or Craigslist. I am moving in a month so I need to find something soon. Any suggestions from the forums on where I should look. Also what is Watertown like? My choices were Watertown, Fort Hood Texas or El Paso, Texas and I am from Texas and no thank you to either of those locations.

I'm no help in regards to Watertown, but wanted to say you're not the only one to move here from Hawaii I made the move from Oahu to Syracuse back in 2009 and these forums were hugely helpful

I was stationed at Fort Drum in the early 2000's and the area has seen some growth since then. Watertown is a small city of about 28,000 and is about an hour north of Syracuse and about 30 minutes from the Canadian border. If you put in Watertown or Fort Drum in the search space, you will find a bunch of information. Here are some apartments that I could find: Colonial Manor | Dawn Homes Realty Investor

This list also has quite a few listings from the Watertown area. I believe that some of the complexes were former off post military housing, that has come under private ownership. Two Plus Four Management Company, Inc.

Are you looking to rent out a home or an apartment? Carthage/West Carthage is fine. Black River, Evans Mills, Calcium and Great Bend may be options as well.

You can do a Watertown as well, but the communities I mentioned are close to post, for the most part. Carthage/West Carthage is a little bigger in terms of small towns and may appeal to some soldiers, especially those that may have children. That's not say that Watertown is bad, but that Carthage/West Carthage may be a better fit for some soldiers.
