RED HOOK~ Dutchess County, NY
Does anyone have any good information on the Red Hook, NY area. We are narrowing our search to this town now. How are the schools (Middle school and elementary right now), are taxes outrageous here?
Any information at all from folks who truly know about this area would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you!

I know guy who moved up to this area from Long Island, and specifically picked Red Hook because of the schools -- apparently they are/were much better than in Rhinebeck (where I live), for example.
I guess taxes are outrageous everywhere in NY. From what I hear, though, it sounds like taxes on Long Island (for example) can be worse than around here

Stayed at the Red Hook Motel in June, 1953--it seemed a very pleasant town back then.

very nice place
I personally do not live there, but I have several clients from that Town (I am a home renovator) and I have told several times that they moved to that Town because of the School District. It is pretty rural area but is very close to a large shopping area (Kingston), have a great College where you can go to free concerts and the people are just very friendly. Taxes are just high anywhere in NY but I think you get some great services for what you pay. If you have any questions let me know since I am currently working there for the next few weeks….

Hi! I am arriving at LGA and need to get to Red Hook. I think there is an Amtrak between Penn Station and Rhinecliff (overall about 6 hrs!!). Is anyone aware of any other means of public transportation? (Metro, bus, shuttles etc.?)
Thanks!

There are (or at least used to be) busses from NYC to Kingston, across the river.
