I was wondering if anyone knows about the area surrounding this new development (The Grove at New Windsor, NY). I went to check out the development this weekend and it looked really nice.
I've been seeing mixed reviews about New Windsor, NY. I also know that the area the development is in, is part of the Washingtonville school district (if that helps).
I know some of the streets near the development are Hudson Valley Ave, Hawthorn Way, and Jackson Ave. Any information on this area would be great! Thanks!
The streets you named are all residential streets off 207 and very close to Stewart International Airport. They are all safe so no issues there. You will hear lots of air traffic due to the development's proximity to KSWF. Washingtonville Schools are good. Plenty of shopping in the area. If you have any specific questions about Orange County, don't hesitate to ask.
Is that the new development right behind the airport? If it's the one I think then its a good area, I live near there but I'm in the newburgh district. As for the air traffic I live by the airport and only hear the planes a lot in the summer, because the summer brings more flights out of stewart. But i've spent a week at the hotel in the airport and saw maybe 2 planes come in and out.
Another thing IDK if this is a problem by that development but where I live the power has been going out a lot so that's something you may want to look into.
Thank you all. Yes, this is the new development by the airport. I ask one of the representatives about the noise from the planes and they informed me that the development is in a no fly zone.
I was wondering about the power issues. I believe for this development the utility lines are in ground.
How is the commute into NYC (specifically mid-town)? I know I could either use the Beacon station, take the bus or use the Port Jervis line. Do you recommend one mode over the other? How long does it really take?
I personally would go with the beacon train. Its a SUPER easy commute and the train are on time 97% of the time, can't say I've ever had a problem, even getting to the train station is an easy trip. Also you never have to worry about traffic as you would on the bus- I can't speak of the port jervis line though.
But beacon trains again- super reliable. Grand central is the last stop and if you go during peak hours there is no transfer (even when there is a transfer its usually a 2-4 minute wait and every time i've had to do it the train is already waiting, no hassle).
As for the power situation, I have my own issues with that so it's very possible that your power will be fine- its just when we had the HUGE storm a few years ago i believe (or so i've told) that our power lines were never fixed correctly, and I am told now that they have been fixed and luckily for me huricane irene, and this past snow didn't knock the power.
Absolutely use the Hudson Line Beacon Station. Beacon is a short ride from your location, you would use exit 5A and head east on 84, Beacon/Wappingers Falls exit. Ride from your development to the station would be ~10 miles. Keep in mind that you will have to cross a bridge daily, the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge. The toll is $1.50 cash or $1.25 if you have an E-ZPass. Beacon is one of MNRR's busiest stations, so parking may be difficult especially if you arrive at peak commuting time. I've never struck out on parking, but I've come close. Parking is $3.25/16 hours. Super-express moves from Beacon to Grand Central (59 miles) in 72 minutes. Most trains take about 80 minutes. Then depending on your job location, you can tack on another 20 minutes.
My father does the commute daily from Montgomery, NY and it takes him 110 minutes door-to-door. I'd imagine yours would be similar.
If you are ever really crunched for time, you can drive. I've made it to NYC from Montgomery in under an hour.
Is there a monthly parking pass that can be bought at the Beacon station? Also I know there is a shuttle bus at Stewart Airpot that goes to the Beacon station, do you know how that is? There's also a park & ride in Newburgh (I believe), how is that?

Park and ride on Route 300 in Newburgh is really good. My father used that for a while. Quick service right over to Beacon for $1 each way.
Through the use of MNRR it does not appear there are any open spots / permits at Beacon at present time.
