Here's an interesting article that allows you to view the household median income and educational attainment of any zip code: Washington: A world apart | The Washington Post

It also shows what percentile a zip code is in relative to those throughout the US.

Great another source to identify those that perceive they are superior...

Perhaps that is true, but I was thinking more about the information that you can find about any zip code. With that said, I did find the article to be interesting and informative.

I'm a bit surprised that 13053 ranks higher than 14870. 13061 is an interesting outlier.

What could skew zip codes are off campus college students and those that cover a variety of neighborhoods, with the latter probably the case with 14870. 13053 and 13061 are near colleges and could be the reason for those numbers.

I'm not sure I'm following this one, it would seem that 13053 would have more students (with its own community college) to bring the MHI down, there's also little if any overlap with the Ithaca City SD, all the mcmansions in Ellis Hollow might be Town of Dryden but not 13053 zip. But there are several high dollar looking subdivisions around Gang Mills which would be 14870, I wouldn't think there would be many Corning CC students on that side.

I was speaking in general terms as to what could skew some numbers. I wonder if 13053 just lacks enough off campus student residents to skew things there, while 14870 may have more variation in terms of neighborhoods/residents. Corning CC is in 14830, I found out.

A couple of zips that are interesting are 13210 and 13224 in terms of the two metrics.

Another thing I found to be interesting is that the Syracuse area doesn't have a zip code with a 6 figure household median income zip code, while the other 3 major Upstate metros have at least 1.

Just to put things into perspective, the median household income for the US is $52,762 and $56,951 for NY State.

So Syracuse is the poorest city in NY??

I'm sure anyone who has seen that dump is breaking out the shocked face as we speak.

According to what? I know that the percentage has been high, but some things may skew the percentage somewhat.

What is interesting is that all of the zip codes within the city of Syracuse still have double digit college graduates, where as Rochester and Buffalo actually has a zip with a single digit college graduate percentages. A part of this may be that some Syracuse zips go outside of city limits, but not by much and even the ones that don't still have double digit college graduate percentages. One zip had a MHI that was just under $28,000, but 46% of those 25 and older were college graduates. What boost poverty percentages are children, which may come of lower income homes and in turn pushes up the poverty percentage. With that particular zip code(13210), while there may be some lower income homes, there is also a high number of off campus students that bring the MHI down.

As for the area not having a 6 figure zip code, there are zip codes according to the chart that are very close to being Super Zips such as 13066, 13104, 13152, 13078, 13035, 13215 and 13061. All are in the 81-94 percentile range due to their MHI and percentage of college graduates.

What is also interesting is that the Syracuse area may have the most ethnically/racially diverse zip code that has a MHI around the national average and with an above average college graduate percentage in Upstate NY(13224).
