Perhaps you need to drive more slowly according to the speed limit restrictions.

I think if you're ticketed for going 11 MPH or more over the speed limit, you face a major fine, mucho points on your license, and a long-term rise in your auto insurance premiums, and fines and points escalate as the MPH over the speed limit increases.

I-84 I think the issue is the hills. I notice the going rate on that highway tends to be 75 but as cars go up the hills they tend to slow down.

The speed limits are low and the troopers are hungry.
Get outside NY and you will see cars with NY plates moving at normal speeds. But on the way back when you cross that NY line you best be back in granny mode or you will writing some large checks over the next few years.

Why the need to speed? On a 10 miles trip you save maybe 1 minute, break state laws, possibly operate outside the design condition of the road, and likely tick off the drivers that you certainly side swipe or tail gate. Not only that, but cars use fuel more efficiently at speeds of 45 to 60. Best practice is to maintain the speed of the rest of the pack. It is the idiots who drive faster or slower than everyone else that cause accidents. What the hell is wrong with following laws, anyway?
I set my cruise at 63 in a 55, and 73 in a 65. I've never been stopped, driven right past state troopers, even passed a few of them before. Knock on wood, I've never had any problems. Highways with more sharp curves/hills, I don't use cruise but I max out at around the same, 62-63 in a 55. Maybe my speedometer is off, but I still get passed by New York drivers while going that speed, especially when the thruway goes to three lanes outside of Albany. I think downstate, drivers average even faster speeds.
He's from New England. They're all maniacs in NE, especially in Massachusetts where obeying speed limits, stop signs, and other traffic laws are optional. I think the only traffic law the Mass folks pay any attention to is stopping for pedestrians in crosswalks but that might only be in the touristy areas along the coast.
