Default Turning Stone Casino

My husband is thinking about taking a job at the Turning Stone Casino in New York. We have two small children. Can anyone give me any info about the surrounding areas. Were to live, schools, shopping, real estate, etc...any good up and coming towns or villages.

I wouldn't exactly describe any of the surrounding area as up and coming. That's not exactly what upstate is about and the Turning Stone is kind of in the middle of nowhere anyway.

Rome will be your biggest nearby city. It has had a rebirth of sorts after the military air base was converted to scientific research. It is one of the feeder cities to the Adirondacks in this part of the state, the other being Utica. This is where people in the mountain communities and ski areas north of there come for shopping, hospitals, doctors.

In general you'll find the immediate area of the casino to be rather rural albeit with a nice landscape. The eastern end of Oneida Lake at Verona Beach may be an option as the lake is beautiful.

Its a distinct possibility that turningstone casino might close down soon. The closest city is rome which is an economically depressed area but the suburbs are really nice if you live in a house on the lake. The ski resorts closest to rome are snow ridge and woods valley which are a decent, clean, upkept places. Inner-city isnt really all that great but take a drive, the country side is beautiful.

This is absolutely not true. There's been some tough talk from both sides, but they will never ever let that place close. In an area where jobs are scarce, they're the largest employer in Oneida County. The casino brings in so much money they just keep on expanding - they just opened a $10 million nightclub last month.
