SmalltownUSA...Do you know the name of the inn/restaurant(large red older bldg) south of Auburn a few miles down along the west side of Owasco lake? I've been trying to recall it...my wife and I went up there for brunch numerous times in the 80's and early 90's. It was pretty good...at that time.

I am a big fan of the northern suburbs of Syracuse- Cicero, Central Square, etc. They are a short, direct drive into "civilization", aka Starbucks. They also have very reasonable prices and lots to choose from. Moderator cut: realtor soliciting Good luck!

Ithaca seems interesting, I would enjoy a college atmosphere, as long as there's no homeless lurking around, it's rampant here in California near the colleges. Am I asking for too much? We are in our late 40s and early 50s, no children, employment is not a concern, just wanting some peace and quiet and quality of life. Thanks!

I know this may seem outlandish to some but.... try the Vernon Verona Sherrill area It is right on the thruway about an hour east of Syracuse nice and quiet close to Oneida lake there is a casino there (for the wild side) and it is on the historic erie canal I grew up there and if economy is not an issue you can buy land there CHEAP

I'm new to this. Anyone have an idea about rural towns close to Ithaca (Trumansburg???) with Jewish residents? Canandaigua?

mn242, Canandaigua is turning into a suburb of Rochester, if it's not already. So Canandaigua isn't very rural. I would suggest DeWitt, NY....as it has a large Jewish population (for Upstate), but it's suburban too.

Thanks
Thanks. We will look at Dewitt. Looking more for the idyllic college town, or within driving distance, and have heard good things about Trumansburg, Aurora, Seneca wine trail, etc.

How far is Trumansburg from Ithaca? Are the towns suggested to me close to a larger town or isolated?
