These commenters aren't part of some conspiracy to starve Buffalo of visitors or new residents. They're simply stating, in many cases, what they've observed and concluded from living there. Many cities in this nation also have a "world of wonder" to offer; some of them have a healthy economy, better management, and a thriving cultural scene to go with it as well.

I see what the nay-sayers see, I'm not blind to the problems of WNY, but I also know the blanketing with negativity is not all of what makes my city looks bad, it's some of people therein whom attack the workings of the area without knowing what a level of government is doing.
It's unfair to other readers who are looking to settle in the WNY area but read comments of falseness. Unintentionally, while they complain and complain and complain, of course we'll never get any "population growth" because it's their complaints of which keeps holding us down, when in fact what they complain about is not all true as I had proven SmellsBad wrong in the other thread I linked to.
There is some conspiracy while in a thread to promote the positives of WNY, nay-sayers and their negativity squash what the positives are.

Agreed. But it will continue as some people just feel compelled to complain

and THOSE are the people I wish would just leave. Not the "people who have ANYTHING negative to say about precious WNY".

So, basically you guys want a separate list of 'good' things versus 'bad' things, and not have the two overlap and confuse the issue. But life's never that clear cut is it, and there's a lot of contingent answers and grey areas...

The negatives of WNY are much more powerful than the positives. That's why this area has and will continue to have negative population growth. Confiscatory taxes combined with government as the largest employer will see to it that this trend will continue.
Heck, I love the Bills, hockey games, old buildings, waterfront and chicken wings as much as anyone. The sad fact is that this area will continue to decline as long as the taxes keep going up, government keeps hiring and private sector jobs keep leaving. It can't be sustained.
You know what the sad part about it is? Almost all the people I know who have left WNY didn't want to leave! They had no choice.

The negatives are only as "powerful" as the nay-sayers keep pushing down the positive. In the short time that I've been here, I haven't once seen you come up with an idea to help spur population growth, or ideas of how to reduce taxes, or what jobs would bring more people back to our area. That's the negativity that's suffering of those whom still remain here, or the turning away of people who have an interest of our WNY area.
The positives of WNY are what's more powerful if not to be destroyed by the likes of people like you.

Thanks for such an insightful comment. I think having a livelihood is far more important than having nice hills or lakes to look at! Most people who live in harsh climates always point out how naturally beautiful the place is. But if one has to be miserable about not being able to pay the bills, or feel like they have any quality of life, then the natural beauty really doesn't look so nice, does it? Honestly, I wonder why anyone would want to put up with months of hellish snow, the costs involved (to life, property, finances, etc.), and be poor on top of it all!

Yes...i feel so poor in my comfortable suburban home on a street with friendly neighbors who get together and have block parties at least twice every summer. The hot tub I just surprised my wife with..i guess we won't be able to afford to put water in it! We are all living lies here in the suburbs of Rochester and Buffalo. Our well manitained and comfortable homes are really tenament buildings in disguise. We've got like 10 families to each house and we all work as cashiers at Wegmans!!! Oh the misery! Pittsford is really a trailer park on the canal too!!!!

So, your point is that you really DO have to have money to enjoy living there, where you can afford to have hot tubs and nice suburban homes.
