Yet I wonder why this thread hasn't been "locked" yet by the mod of this forum because it's basically become a battle between the people who do live in WNY who see the positive vs. the people who have moved away and discourage everything based on their personal negativity thereafter they moved away.

I still live here, for now. I just grow weary of people pumping this area like there is real change happening. The FACTS are: government is the #1 employer in WNY, young people are leaving because there are no PRIVATE sector jobs, taxes are totally out of control, every single town or village has a huge layer of government providing redundant services, school taxes are out of control and very little of the money goes to education.

Things will have to get much worse before they get better. How long are YOU willing to wait around for things to change? WNY has been in crisis mode since Jimmy Carter was President! Enough is enough. Time to push the handle down and flush the toilet.

broken ... broken.... broke... broke ... broken record.

For as long as I am here, I'm going to do my best to make this city the best I can which is more than I can say for you. I honestly wouldn't mind one bit if Buffalo's population dropped by one person. The least of the complainers the better. It's people like you who will always hold Buffalo (and other WNY cities) down with such a negative overtone. If you hate it so much here, then don't let the door hit you on the rear on your way out.

But in no way should you make others feel bad because they care enough about a place they live in.

Ok, the highlighted comment is another erroneous on smells part....if you're considering WNY, you will find the schools are top in the nation. Forbes best 20 schools in the nation recently listed 4 from NY....

Most of the money from your school tax increases are mandated teacher pension and obscene life long health and benfit programs. Socialism pure and simple. Most NYS teachers move away once they retire. Did you know that NYS teachers pension are EXEMPT from State Income taxes? All private pensions in NY are taxed but teachers and Prison Guards, NY State Police, Thruway Toll collectors, etc are exempt. Just another reason to leave..........

Still waiting for YOU to post a TRUE positive about living in WNY. One Buffalo Snow Plow photo doesn't cut it.
Veiled requests for the moderator to "lock out" this topic show your true intentions. Real Estate is a hard sell in Buffalo and most of WNY these days. I just looked up a house in Angola for mid $70K . Taxes were close to $5000 a year! On a less than $80K home! All the more reason for non-government employed people to leave the area.

Grew up in Albany and now am attending college in Rochester... I have to say that I *love* this city. When I first came to Rochester in fall 2006 I expected it to be like Albany... since Albany is so close to Boston, Montreal, and NYC, it has a defeatist attitude and our culture consists entirely of making fun of ourselves ("Smallbany",
Times Useless", "Troylet", &tc.) Rochester is just such a more positive place. All the natives love it and it actually has its own CULTURE. I now dread winter and summer breaks back home in Albany. I would love to ride my bike on one of Rochester's many awesome bike trails. In Albany, there is nothing but concrete and highways next to the Hudson River. I want a garbage plate. Albany's home dish is the... um??? Price Chopper $5 Pizza on Fridays deal? Heh....... I will definitely look for a job in Rochester after college.

Really, the only negative thing I can say about Rochester is the whole pop thing. Even if I spend the rest of my life there I will never say that.
