Default The latest scoop on Binghamton nY

Are you thinking about moving to Binghamton or the area around it known as Greater Binghamton. Well listen. why there may be so much negativity and defensiveness to counter the negativity. Not so bad ? Better then people say?. not so bad depending on what you want and need. It is economically depressed area thats been sinking since 80s and nothing and I mean nothing has revivied it in any way. But thats not all bad. Dont be negative. Look on the bright side. You do not need a great economy caz few nice places to spend money since all the nicer shops and eateries closed up 20 years ago. True there are very few professional people here but if you are comfortable with everyone spitting sputum on the ground in the middle of a conversation with you, this is not a bad thing. You do not have to keep up with the fashions or even wash your clothes to fit in well. The public schools are awful but not everyone cares and most people in Broome County do not care about the schools os this is not a major problem. 50% of the Binghamton high kids leave the school before graduatation so it is easy to get a top ranking if you want to graduate. Nobody is really hoping for a top notch education caz there is nothing to do with a great degree there outside the university-which is where must local people stay anyhows. you do not have to worry keeping up with the Jones. The Jones do not have a cent and can not afford an afternoon snack for their kids. Binghamton University's ugly campus is outside the city and the town hates the university. It is an ugly cold economically depressed place but there are good things. Your car will be the best one in the lot. If you can count to 10 you are one of the smartest ones in the neighborshood. You do not have to worry about spending money on culture and entertainment cause there arint any. You save on gas. It is impossible to get anywhere from Binghamton because it is totally isolated without rail and with limited plane and the next decent town is 300 miles away. But it is cheap and you can pick from hundreds of vacant houses and may even pick up a city block for very little money.

No but almost everyone here is underemployed. Pay is about half that earned for similar jobs in other cities. income is about half average for upstate NY and about one fourth that for the state when NYC is included. Property values are about 20% of state average and falling every day. Look at this sites data. Not so bad caz never went up during the 70s or 80s or 90s or 2000s. Nice predictable economy in Binghamton. Guess down and you will always be right.

I am not going to look at this site's data because I could not care less. I know it is a city with problems, just like most upstate NY cities. What does the content of your post say that has not already been said in previous posts by other bitter people? OK, so you are UNDERemployed and bitter. I am sorry about that. Humble suggestion... why don't you spend your time trying to better your situation instead of registering to this site and making your very first post a dis Binghampton post.

We were relocted and ended up in this pit. People need to be warned. Someone contemplating Binghamton versus anywhere on earth may want to know almost any other place is better. We got song'n dance about how easy it is to live here and how cheap it is and how recovery was round some corner always. Nobody told us it was such a toxic place and nobody said a word about the chemical plume under the entire region and the amaz'n cancer rates for people working and living in Endicott and nobody told us this area had the only confirmed NY state childhood cancer cluster. There are pretty merry go rounds for the children but I do not think that compensates for the health problems.

Washington DC it only a 6 hour drive and you can get to some decent towns in Florida in less than a days ride so I musta been totally nuts to suggest that Binghamton is isolated. I think London is only a 9 or 10 hour flight with a few stops included. So sorry. Binghamton is very connected.
