Can anyone recommend a great place to live no more than two hours away from nyc ( i don't plan on working there but I want to be close to my family). Looking for a decent area where you can buy decent home for around 350k or less with good schools and is safe.

Perhaps Orange County and school districts like Valley Central, Goshen, Warwick, Cornwall and Monroe-Woodbury, among some others could work. I believe that Putnam County would be another place to look.
