Question From Rockland County to Orange County

I am considering buying a home in Orange county, NY. I presently live (rent) and work in Rockland county. I have a three year old daughter and my wife quit her job two years ago to be a stay at home mom. I would like advice on good school districts that is not to distant from Rockland county. My wife is also interested in starting a family day care center (in-home) and the home would therefore need to be accessible to families in need of day care services. All suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The idea of running a daycare from home seems to be a common thought for many stay-at-home moms. However, doing so, raises lots of issues -- zoning, licensing, etc.

Since you want to be accessible to Rockland County, I would suggest:
1) looking on a map to identify the municipalites along the NY State Thruway.
2) You can then research the school districts encompassed in this area.
3a) And also research the NY state regulations for running an in-home daycare 3b) as well as the zoning in the respective towns/villages/cities you identified in your proximity-to-Rockland search.

Armed with all this info, you can then better identify available and suitable homes.

Good luck in your search.

My family and I just relocated to the Cornwall area from Orlando, Florida and we looked first in Rockland County. We have a 2nd grader and a 5th grader and we loooooove the school district here! Nothing against Rockland, we just couldn't find anything with the property we wanted within our price range.

I happen to know of a home/daycare that is currently for sale...it isn't listed with a broker so it's kind of hard to find. They are selling the house with the daycare business. PM me if you want more information and I'll give you the location and everything.

Good Luck!
