Hi,
I grew up in Sullivan County, and see that you haven't gotten many responses so I figured I'd chime in.
I am not sure where you're moving to Sullivan from, but you will find that it's a very rural and different type of area than most. There are low-paying (read: minimum-wage level) jobs to be found, but they are not always at the big chains like suburban areas. The seasonal tourist industry is also big in the Catskills. You will find a lot of employment opportunities as a student at little mom-and-pop type places - restaurants, boutiques, gift shops, etc etc etc. There are little plazas sprinkled around SCCC, as well. The college isn't in the most roaring area, but but there is a ShopRite in Liberty (not too far of a drive), there are the normal smattering of fast food places, etc. You are also a reasonable drive to Orange County, if you're willing to commute to someplace like Middletown - a much more "normal" suburban area with a mall and various plazas. Might not be worth the commute for six bucks an hour, though.
As a high school student, I worked at a locally-owned grocery strore, a pizzaria, and a resort near Callicoon. I was never hurting for work too bad, I just had to search a little bit for it.
Good luck -
Jasil

Interestingly though they do want to complain about the lack of jobs...
