Default Best place to get a teaching job upstate?

I currently live and teach on Long island. I work in a wealthy Nassau county school district and make a great salary, however I rent and commute about 45 minutes one way. I want to buy a house, but my max is around 400k. For that kind of money, I can't get what I want here. I would love a yard, possibly a lake. I realize the job situation is rough upstate. Plus, from what I have heard there are too many teachers. Is there anywhere I can go? I need to get off LI so I can breathe a bit easier, raise a family, and enjoy a slower pace of life. Thanks for any info you can give.

-I have ten years experience and teach elementary

I hear the Mid-Hudson region is always looking for teachers. Secondhand information, from someone in a similar situation as you looking to move (she and husband are outside Philadephia.) I've never lived there but certainly like the area.

Buffalo schools are hiring. Wage freeze and control board but hiring. How are your Martial Arts skills? Do you have a concealed carry pistol permit? $400K would buy you the best house in the whole city. We have a large Lake called Erie with Niagara Falls a few miles away.
