New York State's socialism hasn't addressed their wealth inequality, I'd say it has made it worse. Rather than redstributing wealth from wall street to main street, it has only made it harder for the middle class to get ahead. Most of the social spending seems inadequate, and usually just ends up in the hands of slumlords and corrupt bureaucrats.

But Florida doesn't pay for non citizens to get Medicaid. NY is one of the few that do, and now they can't get any federal aid due to Obama's executive order explicitly forbidding it.
NY's overly generous handouts make us the welfare state and drives out middle class people, replacing them with t ax dollar sucking economic parasites.
As per Main Street regulations more than 50% of population in that area must be low income. This program really doesn't benefit middle class tax payers. Again, NY is more interested in being the welfare state. Why?
Is it for political reasons for Democrats to court minority voters? Economically, I can't see why making it more attractive for poor people to come live in NY makes any sense.
Other states are trying to attract wealthier retirees via tax breaks to get them to spend more money locally in their adopted state. We try to attract economic losers.
No wonder NY is losing so many tax payers each year.

Where does it say that the Main Street funding areas has to have 50% of the population in a low income bracket? It is an either or, as an area can be designated for economic investment. Here are other programs: Office of Community Renewal
I believe that Saranac Lake is one example of a community that got a Main Street Grant: Grant Programs - Village of Saranac Lake, New York*
Also, FL still allows illegal immigrants to go to college. So, they offer incentives for illegal immigrants in that state or it wouldn't see the growth in that demographic.
You don't think of NY as a place to retire to, eventhough some still do it.

Read the link you provided. It is in there. It is not either/or.
It is great you are a cheerleader for NY. Your enthusiasm for the state is nice to see. Too bad you don't have a job in the state govt promoting our state for business/ middle class, lol.
No, despite being a life long NYC/LI resident, I don't see the financial possibility of retiring here. I am tired of seeing so many friends and neighbors leaving the area tired of ever increasing taxes and decreasing quality of life. I really wish the state and my local area could get its act together to make it more affordable and enjoyable to live here.
Nope, it is 60 and sunny where I'm at. Thats not even the case for all of the Buffalo area.
