I wouldn't worry about being in/near a crowded city in that part of the state and the area is largely safe. So, I wouldn't worry about those things too much. It can get rural pretty quick though.

Where on Long Island would you be coming from?

Also, are there other things you are looking for in a community in terms of say amenities, events, shopping, etc?
