Hi Forum,

I am an upstater and moving to the area, have a job at Delhi. I have 2 toddlers and I and my wife wanted as 'normal' a life for everybody. I like the outdoors, the kids need a good elementary school and a good neighborhood with lots of kids. Both Oneonta and Delhi seem family friendly.

Whats a good neighborhood for a house? Thats my primary question. Thank you for the help and god bless.

I would ask this in the general section of the NY forum. Walton, Sidney and the Unadilla/Otego area(Unatego SD) may be other areas to consider. Those are most of the bigger school districts in Otsego and Delaware counties, along with Oneonta and Delhi.

I live in Oneonta and currently rent. If I were in the market to buy I would purchase in Oneonta or West Oneonta. There is nothing in Delhi. Many of my friends who reside in Delhi are frequently making the trek to Oneonta to go the mall, restaurants, entertainment, supermarkets, moms groups, etc. I would think these may be important to a stay at home mom with young children. However, you would also need to consider your commute to work particularly in bad weather. Regarding the schools, I can only speak about schools in Oneonta. There are three elementary schools (Greater Plains, Riverside, and Valley View) they all feed into Oneonta Middle and Oneonta High School. There are also other schools such as Oneonta Christian School which I've heard great things about. Hope this helps.
