Hi, considering relocating from the west coast and wanted to learn more about Poughkeepskie. I've read conflicting stories: that it's one of the safest cities in NY to it's one with the highest crime rate. These articles are 2013-2014. Is it an unsafe place to live?

I live here now. truthfully town of Poughkeepsie is nice, but taxes are VERY high. City has its rough spots but truthfully is not all that bad to be, but I grew up in the South Bronx. Poughkeepsie does have gang activity, drug activity, etc but if you mind your business your fine. other than a couple streets I would say to avoid if your new the rest is fine. but be warned jobs, economy, schools, etc suck so why your choosing this area is beyond me.

City of Poughkeepsie has crime problems, but the town of Poughkeepsie is fine, with every kind of amenities all around the area, that make the place very livable.
