can't find anything positive to say, sorry......
I was born in Middletown and I've lived here most of my adult life. Alot of people from the city have moved here over the last 20 yrs or so. Yes, it might be a dream after living in the city, but it hasn't been for those of us who were used to quiet living without all of the gangstas moving in to the area. JMO

East Avenue
what's the scoop with this area? Is it bad-- I've heard ok to rough. Is it ever possible for any neighborhood in this city to turn for the better?

The Middletown zip codes cover a widespread area. Most folks referring to Middletown may also be speaking of Scotchtown area [o,23 acre and concentrated], areas near Circleville [very country], out on Collabar -S road [also country], or out towards Slatehill. Many different school districts including Pine Bush, Valley Central, Goshen, Minisink, and of course Middletown. Absolutely many different types of neighborhoods, homes, condos, apartment complexes, lot sizes in smallcity to quite country locations. You have lots to pick from.........$150,000 condos to 1.5 mill homes...with pop expansion also came a wider variety of restaurants, shopping, and recreation.........all within easy reach.

hey, i have been living here for about 4 months now and so far so good. I moved to a so so neighbourhood, but that's fine with me, i train dogs and have some of my own and nobody bothers me here. I don't have kids school age myself so i dont care about the school districts but my child is now 2 and im verry suprised of how much is here for him to do;-)....a lot of activities, music, arts , sports and everything is right at the spot. There is also a YMCA, where they have sport activities and a pool for adults and kids of all age and it's great. Everything is close, post office, stores, malls, movies, restaurants, gyms. I'm young so i don't mind that sometimes there are teenagers hanging out on the streets, i guess i don't automaticly assume they have to be little gangsters, hehe. i don't mind if my neighbour plays music in his yard couse sometimes i like to do the same and i guess everybody is cool and we have that undarstanding. i would go crazy if i had some stiff folks that would call the cops everytime my dog barks . The downtown area is not great, nothing much going on there but i went to goshens downtown and it looks just about the same;-(...after reading the negative comments before i moved here i was a little worried but i have to say the town is wayy better than i thought

Middletown and nearby country-like areas
Based upon the description of Middletown schools and crime we have ignored some Middletown real estate listings that looked nice to us (i.e. country home with some acreage) but now it seems we may wish to re-consider them (depending on the school district listed.) Can someone please help me with the following 2 questions:
1. "lad-59" mentioned a new grammar school in the Middletown area. Can someone please tell me exactly where the new grammar school is and which school district is it in?
2. When a listing states "Middletown" but is for a country home with acreage, is it possible that the listing is actually for an area such as Circleville, on Collabar, or out towards Slatehill?
Thank you in advance for your help.

I can at least answer number 2. Yes it is most likely within middletown area limits. Middletown is not really a city IMO, in terms of land size. I find it to be more or a large town. This being said, many new homes are being built all throughout the city limits. Anything I have seen with acreage is usually a little on the outskirts, and if not on the outskirts, has its own lil private nook and crannie in the city. So you will have your great lil area of your own.
Also around middletown and wallkill are these new housing communities. Some are affordable, luxury condo communities. And some are bigger house communities. Each house in the community having a large front and back yard. My family chose the condo community which is great and affordable. You do pay common charges, which is for 2 parking spaces, maintenance, garden keeping, garbage pickup, and the playground they built for the kids. The draw back of these is that everything is uniform, and external modifications(which you can only do small things) require approval from the community board.
My ex lived in one of those house communities, which differ from the condo communities in that most of the stuff I said before is left up to the land owner to go out and find someone to take care of. So you down your own garden work, and seek your own maintenance for house hold stuff. Also you can paint and decorate the outside of your home as you want. With the condos the most people do is flowers and deck furniture.
The trade off of not being able to customize your condo, is that you save money on repairs and handy work, as it is provided at the fixed common charges rate. This is all negated however if your are a handy guy yourself.
You can get around the same home size with either, but each has its goods and bads depending on what you are looking for in terms of price and other things.
Hope this helps a bit. Also check my previous post, in another middletown forum, for my opinion on the city as a resident. You can click my profile to find it.
