Default Moving to Rockland. . .maybe. . .

Hello,

we are thinking of moving to rockland county this spring. we are from the NYC area and most of our family is still there. we currently live in boston (just moved here in Sept) but my husband is getting a better job in Cortlandt Manor, NY so we are considering a move. i will be communuting to Newark Nj to work so though rockland county might be a good middle ground.

in addition to seeking some guidance on local daycare options for our 18month old (and mommies groups anyone may know about), can anyone suggest a town/city within rockland or nearby? we are looking for some place that will allow us to walk and grab a morning coffee or the paper or a slice of pizza; be ethinically diverse; have good schools and be as "happening" as rockland can get. i know its a lot to ask for but we are will to compromise a bit depending on the pros/cons of a place. also, anyone know a good real estate agent we might be able to contact? we wil be in the area jan 25th and were hoping to spend some time exploring.

any help would be appreciated.
thanks.

Nyack is a diverse and very happening town. Great restaurants, shops, etc. Problem is, schools are mediocre.

Piermont is a really cool little town right on the river and is in the South Orangetown school district which, I'm told, is very good.

Other good school districts are Pearl River and Nanuet, but these are more like regular suburban towns, not really "happening"....

Pearl River and Piermont are great spots to go, but not very ethnically diverse (if that is a hold up for you). Nanuet is a little more so.

I'd go with Nyack. The school district there is good, the town is diverse, and it's the place to be in Rockland on many weekends and evenings. I think you'd like the area very much. It's also near the Thruway which will zip you over to the Garden State Parkway to Newark.

Best of luck with your search.

I used to do a lot of business down in Rockland, but I find that I'm not as versed in the area as I'd like to be, but I do know a couple of really good agents down there that will walk you through the area better than I can and show you where everything is. Let me know if you'd like a few names that way you can get a feel for a couple of different people.
