I want to start with turntables and records to practice djing. Is there a place where I can use turntables daily to practice?

I haven't been in a disco in about 40 years and most have disappeared. I wouldn't think that they still que up the vinyl records on turntables. Where would they find high quality replacement styluses?

My advice is to phone up or go directly to an operating disco, seek out the manager or owner and ask if you could practice there. Offering to pay for the privilege would be an inducement.

Vinyl is back in fashion, so replacement turntables and components aren't an issue.

Many mixers have gone this way though:

You are correct on both counts.

However, the photo is very retro! The 1st gen iPod is a dinosaur!

There is "virtual" DJ console software that is probably more applicable to the situation. Less expensive than a physical console. Software will definitely allow you to practice at home. You can even use the software to actually DJ parties and family events to get some real world experience.

I don't own and DJ equipment or software, but here is an example: http://www.mixxx.org and it is free. Can't beat that price. Break it out at the next family gathering or 4th of July party.

I agree it's a dinosaur...here's something a bit more current...
