If the property tax system was fixed so that NYC homeowners pay even a third of what suburban homes pay in school taxes (not the village/town part of the taxes, just the school district parts) then NYC schools could have a huge $$$ infusion

The money would get wasted by incompetent public officials on pensions. Yonkers is the prime example.

Given how NYC resident pay the highest income taxes in the country, jacking up the property taxes would just give people more of a reason to leave.
