Default New City, NY

We have been considering the different areas of Rockland, primarily Pearl River, Orangeburg, and Nanuet, but are now considering New City because we hear the Clarkstown schools are the best in the county. Can anyone fill me in on what it might be like to live in this town? What are the people like? Is there a difference between the Clarkstown North and South high schools? Do these schools offer all the "extras", i.e. computers, art, music, after-school programs, etc. Does the town offer good recreational programs?

We've driven through town a few times and the village seems to have more to offer than the other areas we've been looking at. Hopefully, someone out there can give us the inside scoop.

Thanks Alot!

New City does have a bit of a stereotype (i.e. materialistic, Mercedes/Lexus driving soccer mom, etc.) But honestly, what upper-middle class town doesn't these days? It truly is a wonderful community to raise a family.

Clarkstown schools are top notch as far as extra programs. As far as the differences in the high schools, South is slightly more diverse AND is a MUCH nicer as well as newer facility. North has actually been in the news recently as a having a long standing rodent problem. As far as academics are concerned, they are both top notch.

As far as town recreation, Clarkstown has 3 really nice facilities for the summer. Lake Nanuet (the nicest), Germonds Park, and Congers Lake.

If you mean painting the crosswalks to look like stone......I thought there was something going on......but almost every town is doing the same thing...New City is a nice area...it is split up into two high schools...North and South...sounds familiar...you could split hairs as to which one is better...both offer great sports programs as well......

However...the homes in Nanuet, Pearl River, Orangeburg, Suffern also have great schools...and once again...you could split hairs as to which one is better......

Yeah born & raised there left in 78. They have been talking that garbage for almost 50 years. Was there to see family several times this year and the last updates still appear to have ocured in the 70's.
