Default Newburgh, NY?

What can anyone here tell me about that town? I have four children ranging between almost two and 10 years. Two are already in school, 2nd and 4th grades.

If you are looking to live in Newburgh with children I caution you. Much of the city is desolate and crime infested. Bad schools and drugs galore.

P.S. You may want to post this under the New York section vs. the Westchester section. Newburgh is not part of Westchester- it's Orange County. I'm sure you will get MUCH more responses there from locals.

I went to the Newburgh schools in the late 80s early 90s. back then they werent bad. I would not put my kids into them now. The district has a lot of money and NFA could truly be great again if they would clean up downtown and get rid of all the drugs and gangs. Until then I would look outside newburgh. Cornwall is nice with the best schools in Orange county. Just a little further down 9W and a bit more expensive but worth it just for the schools. Word of Warning~ they still only have half day kindergarten

Town of newburgh isn't bad at all... and part of that is in the Wallkill School District or Valley Central School District, so you can keep your kids out of the Newburgh Enlarged City School District. I have to agree that the city of newburgh is not a place you want your kids to roam around in, it's not safe at all for anyone. Not even for lifelong residents. As was mentioned before, look into cornwall as an option, or really any other surrounding area but make sure they are not in the Newburgh Enlarged City school district... or even hanging out in Newburgh for that matter. When I was a child growing up in the 80's, my family lived in the city of newburgh, and I recall many many encounters I had even as a ten year old child with grown men chasing me with hammers, knives, and lead pipes... now a days .. it's even worse.
