Ok, how about any info on the Antwerp area, I think Oxbow is in the Antwerp township. We will be moving out there in just a couple weeks and I am a little nervous, I've heard the people are super friendly, so that helps, but where are the best places to get groceries and all that. I know Watertown has pretty much everything I need but is there anything closer? Maybe in Gouverneur?

Oxbow
I'm speaking as someone who grew up in a village of less than 1,000 people (Philadelphia) and I have to say that Oxbow (about 8 miles away, but in the same school district) is a TINY little place compared to the village I grew up in. In fact, Oxbow is so small that unless you buy one of about ten houses near the central intersection you are going to be living OUTSIDE of Oxbow. You would be living, as we say, in the country.
You see, in this part of the world you are either living in town (in a village of 500 to 1,500) or you are living in the country, in which case a drive into town is 3 to 8 minutes. In fact, if you drive 5 to 10 minutes in any direction you are going to find yourself in some village because there are villages everywhere and they are 5 to 10 minutes apart.
It would be wise to visit first and make your decision, in the village or in the country. Oxbow is so small that it isn't really a village, by the way. I would rent for a while, then buy after you've an idea what the area is like. Many people live on the small lakes in the area and Oxbow has two of them nearby. The same geologic conditions that created all those lakes in Ontario, Canada (the Rideau Lakes) also created many small lakes in northern NY.

Thank you Reporter! I was getting worried that no one had even heard of the place... LOL. My husband grew up in the Herkimer area and for many years has wanted to move back to upstate. He has taken a few trips out there and stayed with family while he looked around to find want we wanted. He found a great little house, well its not to little, in Oxbow, yes one of the few actually in Oxbow....LOL. We live in a mountain area now that doesnt get home mail delivery, and I'm very used to driving 20-30 mins to get to a grocery store or Walmart and the like. The people here,in Ca., are just so darn grumpy. Most of the places my husband looked at were way out in the country with no one around, so I'm happy with Oxbow. I'm told there is a little tiny market and lots of fishing for my boys, It cant get much better than that for me! Thank you again for responding
