OP: I am sure you thought about these issues before you bought the home, but now you are stuck. What happened?

He has a really good income with insurance and a pension plan. I am not sure he will be able to find that in another state.

My house is in the Cornwall SD but I am looking/thinking about Newburgh SD for employment. I keep hearing that it is diverse. I also would not mind Harlem or the Bronx for me as a teacher but not for my daughter.
I would think that if you are ready and willing to teach in inner city schools (ie, minority students) in Newburgh, you should be able to get a job much easier than in the suburban districts. Can your husband get family health insurance? If you can't get a full-time job in Newburgh, you might be able to get a long-term sub position or a temp position.

Is it possible for you to get even temp certification in Special Ed, ESL or Math? Friends, relatives, and acquaintances have been able to get teaching jobs right out of school in the Buffalo Public Schools with those certifications and being willing to temporary teachers. If they like you, they figure out how to get you on a permanent track. Maybe Newburgh works the same way?

Otherwise, take a transfer to Harlem or the Bronx and start looking for a reliable SAHM who would like to earn some extra money caring for your daughter before and after school. Many school districts also have after school programs.

Why would you want to live in New Windsor, of all places?
It has nothing going for it.

you're very smart to be in new windsor with its lower taxes and yet the cornwall district, it's a great school.

join the community groups on facebook; those are great places to pick up tips and get resources.

you're not unusual, all of these towns, new windsor, cornwall and points south, are bedroom communities for the city and northern suburbs. i worked in queens while commuting for two years and then i found jobs closer to home. that's how it's done. cornwall schools have great after school programs and then all you need is a backup babysitter for sick days and holidays. then you look for jobs on the west side of the hudson or northern jersey. people do it all the time. don't worry too much, you'll be fine.
